Well, i've seen plenty that are driven - all be it badly - very fast both on public roads and tracks. It might only be a small percentage of the time... but those types of cars are fast and hard to control unless you know what you're doing. When the 'posers' do finally get the urge to try and impress their 19yo model mistress, there's a very high chance of them coming undone.

It's a pretty simple concept - a sports car is a car deisgned with motor sporting intent. If you buy a sport car, then everyeone assumes at some point you'll be driving it fast = higher risk than, say, a TDI.

Once you have your new car run in, come around and on my closed circuit I can show you what the TDI is capable of!

Yes, thems fighting words (and my insurance is cheaper than your R32 too! )

Both of these cars will have a significant number of incidents above other model designations.
Yes, they told me that too.

They weren't able to disclose the risk record of the GT (it's a brand new model), but seem to have put it immediately in the highest risk category.

Surely the 148kW Type R Civic would be one of these same Crazy Fool models? But my 17 year old daughter can drive one of those, same as the R32 - but not a 125kW GT!

But all that crap is just a bulls**it sideshow. Shop around until somebody gives you the deal you want. It's just a pity the company my wife & I had been with for so long were willing to stand by and watch us take 3 cars, the business insurance and the house insurance away from them. Oh well...

The R32 is an awesome little beast. Have just under 2000k's on the thing and am starting to have a bit of fun with it. Only wish I lived further away from work as I don't get to drive it as much as I would like during the week! hehe

Getting decent economy too considering its still a green engine. On the highway I average 8.3-9.0L. Not too sure about city driving as the instantaneous fuel consumption computer gizmo can read out some pretty high numbers when you are flooring it.

My average fuel consumption of 30% highway, 70% inner city driving is 11.7L/100. I don't think that too bad considering I don't exactly baby my car (once its at 90* temp that is!).

Have no regrets at all about getting the VeeDub. Best, most fun car I have owned EASILY. Wish had have gotten one sooner. You will sometimes get someone that is into their cars telling you that they would have gotten the GTI as its a better drivers car - but I'm not all that fussed with that.

Its an awesome car. Solid. Well built. Fun etc. You will love it.
Excellent, thanks for the feedback. Already planning some long trips myself to get the kms up, especially as I walk to work most days (and I really shouldn't complain about that - it's bloody great to be able to).

Our R32 now has about 5700 kms on it. I haven't reset the fuel consumption readout since we got it, and it has slowly gone from 10.5 lt/100 km to 10.3 lt/100 km. Vast majority of the mileage has been suburban, with only one country run early in the piece to run it in.

                  No worries mate

Just one thing to note - and I know its been done to death....avoid a long highway trip (at constant RPM's) on a new engine - something about bedding in the engine seals.....do a search for more info if you like

                    1) kill your mate who tried to change gears without a clutch.. or at least sleep with his wife, sister or mother...

                    2) I can't believe insurance is so expensive in Melb!! I pay less than $600 a year for full comprehensive in Brisbane on a GTI DSG. I'm 28 years old and rating 1 protected too. I would have probably considered an EVO 9 if the insurance wasn't over 3x more expensive (~2k) - the low insurance premium really tipped the balances for the GTI for me.

                    3) can you drive around Albert Park @ full throtle if you want to? is it a public road or being in a park, a private one? Do you get many people taking their cars around it before the GP??

Thanks mate - howdi - to answer your q's

                    1) I plan on showing him how his Liberty GT can do the exact same thing (that prick! )

                    2) Living in St Kilda adds plenty to that figure - (around 600-700). My previous car was similar money to insure. Its bullsh*t when you consider that I only do around 10000 k's per year and my car is garaged both at home and at work.

                    3) Closed off this week until a few weeks after the Grand Prix. Has a speed limit of 50km/h at all times. The road is public but is (half) setup for the GP prior to closing it off to the public. (ie. grandstands/barriers etc.) Final touches are made in the last few weeks before the GP.

Deal! Oh, but i already have 5400km on my car in just under 2 months. Does that count as run in

I hope i didn't offend - i actually think the TDI is a brilliant car and has massive gains available out of that engine. Really good design. It's just that a TDI doesn't attract the same sort of attention, currently, that a GTI or GT would. It's certainly not the choice of young hoons or the over cashed show ponies

The TDI GT is more for the "Elite".

Nice to see some healthy debate amongst the camps.

I really don't care which MKV you own, they are all great and with the right person behind the wheel amazing things can be done even in a 1.6!
