Lights are controlled via the central electrics module, not canbus gateway module.
So if your coding and installation list for your gateway is correct you can move on to other modules.
Do an autoscan first and save the output file, that will list all your module coding should you need to review or restore any of them.

Ok, so it all seems to work but I no longer have any options in the coding section of the gateway and still have the red error text at the bottom. I don't know if this matters?

I still have this screen saying the control module is not coded

Re: CAN Gateway Upgrade - Now nothing works!

That red text is normal for that gateway.
And control module not coded just means you are using a WSC (workshop code) of 0000.
Whenever you change coding of a module with WSC set to 0000 VCDS will warn you and ask do you want to use 1234 instead. If you use 1234 you won't get that not coded message. But it won't change anything else.
It is just used to show who did the last coding change.

As kamold said, the red text is normal. What about other modules are there any fault codes (errors)?

When playing with the can bus, one has to be careful, since you can end up with more than just a fault code, the car can end up immobilised not drivable.

The safest way to update the can bus is to update the software in the module without the hustles of saving/ticking the options and swapping the unit, saving you time and inconvenience.
Any member in Adelaide can come to me or I come to you and I can upgrade the canbus software in 1/2 hour and it should not cost you more than $100 if you come to me.
...or any other software in your car. The Mk5 2.0LTDI owners report less turbo lag and smoke from the tile pipe. I always check for any software update in your car during scheduled servicing that is available from VAG.

Guys thanks for the guide here.

Just wanted to add to it saying that make sure you've coded 19- Can Gateway for your vehicle under Byte9.. Ie Bit 0 & bit 1 being RHD & 4doors if applicable. This appears to activate your reverse & rear fog light.

Any other 'error ' codes (DTC's) that come up should be cleared also. Then all I'd done was run auto scan & all was well

I was having this problem too, only 3 bytes in long coding of new module. RHD setting is in byte 3 on newer gateways (mine is from a 2013). This resolved my fog/reverse light issues, but I still cant seem to resolve an issue causing my steering wheel not to lock. I get the following fault code:

02823 - Requirements for Locking the Steering Column Lock not met

From what I've read this is a result of a gateway module from a Golf being fitted in my Passat, which is incompatible with the steering lock and "some other computers", see here: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...way-63334.html

I'm just wondering if anyone else has come across this, and if I am definitely doomed to the fate of an unlockable steering wheel?

              Thanks, Ruairi.

Just in case someone stumbles across this thread as I did...
I had the same error message:

02823 - Requirements for Locking the Steering Column Lock not met

                After installing a 7N0 gateway.
Reverted to a 3C0 rev Q gateway and this resolved the issue.

Another symptom of this is the indicators do not flash to acknowledge a successful lock from the keyfob, and the steering wheel warning light will flash on the dash after key removal.
