Go and buy some material, glue in spray plus few cans of drink and do it yourself (if you have garage that is easy job).
You will save hundred of $$$.R36 > MK5 2006 1.9 TDI > MK4 2003 1.6 Generation > MK3 1995 2.8 VR6 > MK2 1990 1.6 > MK1 1982 1.8 GTI

Why pay for an overpriced new hoodlining from VW when it will probably have the same problem as the original? A trimmer told me that they had taken one out of its box and noticed it had already started separating. I've been quoted around $500 to replace the hood lining.
Make sure you go to a trimmer - not a dealer who will just send the job out and add on 100% for their 'trouble'. The dealership I bought my Jetta from struggled with changing an oil filter correctly - a roof lining would be way beyond them.Last edited by Rileyowner; 28-06-2013, 08:40 AM.

I bypassed them this week with a recurring coolant leak they'd previously sorted, it turned out Highway hadn't replaced the parts they were supposed to, they'd siliconed them up.
During statutory warranty I was forced to go to Highway by the dealer I purchased the car from, every time a had dealings with them there were drama's and repeat visits.
I took my business elsewhere (local VW specialist), happily gave them my money.
My specialist doesn't charge $146 an hour either !!!

so finally had call from vw customer service .Who advised that they have contributed the maximum amount towards my hood lining replacement .When quizzed why I can get repaired for what they were offering they had no response to that .will now take and have repaired at my own expence.so much for customer care .

I recently took mine into VW at Campbelltown as my hood lining was sagging and the little "tabs" holding it into the hood cutouts kept falling out. The mechanic told me it was very common due to people wetting theirs when washing the engine bay etc and extra weight from the water was stretching it. It certainly made sense to me and they replaced it under warranty. The new hood liner is different to the original too (improved for sure), so I suspect VW know it's a design issue. Of course I can't speak on their behalf, but it is stange they changed hood liners for the same vehicle. Anyway, very happy with the new one.

I think you are getting the under bonnet trim mixed up with the roof hood lining inside the car which is what this is about . Next I am a motor trimmer sort of retired these days {just fit sunroofs}dropping hood trims and shrinkage is quite common on some cars , the main problem is the way they are manufactured they use moulds and heat to stretch and glue the trim most of the time its under tension when finished . Then as the years roll by the foam backing under the actual velour starts to decay as its a petro chemical and it degrades and reverts to a semi liquid state hence the fabric shrinks and comes away .I fit sunroofs as a fulltime job these days and we remove the hood trim every time . Time to remove the trim recover and refit would rarely pass two to three hours maximum . Cars with sunroofs can be difficult for most trimmers as they need to recover the sliding sunshade and this requires that the glass and drain channel be removed , no problem for me as as an apprentice forty odd plus years ago I used to remove sunroofs every day when doing trim work but thse days not many would attempt it . The other problem we see with the factory hood linings is when they are made they tend to cut the fabric right at the very edge of the trim and any fittings lights visors handles holes etc , thats why you see so many shrining around those parts if they just left a few extra mls it would not happen .Originally posted by Shanrus View PostI recently took mine into VW at Campbelltown as my hood lining was sagging and the little "tabs" holding it into the hood cutouts kept falling out.
