I think tastes in vehicles, driving styles are as varied and personal as art / music appreciation. There are extreems at both end of the scale - always have been, always will be.
Personal views are just that ... personal views/preferences. I grew up with fast cars and still love them. Some don't ... their choice.
What I object to (as with religion) is someone trying to force their opinions on me as "The True Way". There is no true way ... or maybe there's a true way for each individual.

I agree Dave, you are right (as long as you agree with my opinion there will be no problem)!

can u imagine a world where people were forced to drive fast cars!? haha thatd be very scary
It's funny I felt the same way when I first started driving. It was always about point A to point B. I had driven some V8's at work, and thought it was ok, but I never really liked the big cars, they just don't feel right. I prefered my Astra to be honest. However since getting my GTI I have felt different about driving. It just handles completely different, and it's enjoyable! I like the fact I can take over someone on a country road and not worry about not having enough power to get around in time.

Why do people need to buy powerful cars? Big v8s, highly strung little motors, performance cars etc. Dont get me wrong ..I like driving but I dont have to go fast to enjoy. So why are these monsters on the road. All I can come up with is the little **** syndrome.. Mine is bigger or faster than yours....
hmmm lets think... because its FUN. is it really that hard to see the appeal i mean geeze... its pretty obvious isnt it?
Guys... it's just an opinion. Maybe the OP really doesn't enjoy driving fast. There's people who don't - i know a couple that get quite scared even being passengers at moderate speed. Why would having a car that goes fast through corners or in a straight line appeal to someone who's affraid of traveling fast like that?

he said that all of us who drive fast cars have small ****s... not really the best post for popularity on a car enthusiast forum dont you think? he must have a few syndromes of his own
now to come clean & stirred you all up...... My current car is a mark5 1.9ldsg which I enjoy to a point.I know the vast majority of you will laugh when I tell you that the most enjoyable car/s I ever owned were Volkswagen Beetles. Go anywhere & nothing stopped them.,Sit on the highways of yesteryear at 100-120kph. very very comfortable seats.. one could drive for5 -6 hours & get out & feel as fresh as when you started. great handling (even though not up to todays standards) great turn in. ride over bumps without being thrown off line. All done with a pissy 1200 -1500 cc engine. you guys dont know what you missed out on. ..... Any monkey can press an accelerator for their cheap thrill. I believe that true motoring was in the early 70,s..just take a look at the cars (german ones) that were available. I can drive my little diesel alongside an HSV (6 litrs for Gods sake) on most roads..Yes they can accelerate faster than me but to what end..arrive 10 mins early while using up the earths rescouses at twice the rate I do...... what's the point. I think it has to do with one's definition of driving enjoyment. When I go on cruises with the Vic boys, I'm gaining a rep for holding up the rear and making everyone wait for me (grandpa driving indeed!), but I enjoy going as fast as I am comfortable with. Some people like to go in straight lines very fast, hence we have Bugatti Veyrons, Corvettes, HSV, etc. Some like to go around corners very fast, hence we have Lotus Elise, Exige, Caterhams, etc. Some like to squeeze as much as they can out of their motors, suspensions, etc (chips, coilovers) so they can have their cars perform the way they like. Some like to change the appearance of their cars, whether or not they have been modified internally, because they want them to look good. Others like a good cruiser, hence Bentley Continentals. The fact that I have a car that performs to my expectations in a straight line, and around corners, in bog standard trim, and can get girls half my age to stare at me while I drive it , is my idea of driving enjoyment. I don't think anyone's manliness, or whatever should be called into question. At the end of the day, it's what you want and like out of your car, and as long as nobody is offended or injured by it, then we all should admire, or ignore, as we see fit.
