Don't IPod's use generic auxilliary ports for car stereo's equipped with them?

I don't own one but have used by Creative player in my car stereo from time to time, or is this some great degree of functionality like an IDub or something?

I can just see it....you'd have to send the car back to Germany to have the battery replaced. And the fuel nozzle would become a non standard size, so you'd have to go to 'Apple' petrol stations, where you would buy the normal fuel, but at twice the price.

You would however be served by a topless supermodel who would fill your car up, top up the water, check the tyres and clean the bugs off the windows for free

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

I'd love an apple car. They are inovative, easy as to use, we'll thought out and have a bit of charisma too. iPod - possibly the most consumed item for this decade is to me clear indication that their technolgy is good (or are the majority of consumeres idiots?).

                    iBug (pun intended) FTW!

                      Probably.

I take it you either don't own an ipod, or haven't had to replace the battery yet.

4 years and still going strong!

If you offset the cost of the ipod compared to burning cd's and killing original ones, replacing batteries etc in my old discman - i'd say it has been a wise inevstment.

I always thought it was the clever and succesful marketing campaigns the made apple succesful, not the product itself...

The marketing cost drives up the price of the units and is what allows often superior products from other brands to compete but still funnily enough fails to get apple's market share.
The functionality and user friendliness is due more to the perception of the product in the market moreso than the product itself. I have a creative unit
that I think is much better than my friend's ipod.

Its all marketing people, thats all ... Its also the reason or siginifant contributing factor why many of you bought VW's in the first place.

I too bought a Creative Zen Touch 20GB player back in the day simply because it WAS NOT an iPod. At the time I just didn't want on the over hyped iWagon.

The reality is that an MP3 player is a MP3 player is a MP3 player. They all pretty much do the same thing, especially for me since it's pretty much always been load songs, hit random, press play.

BUT, I did just buy the wife an iPod to go with her MacBook and am about to update the head unit in her Outback so it will control the iPod. At the end of the day, no other unit allows the integration of the iPod, and like I said above, an MP3 player is a MP3 player and that includes the iPod.

Mind you there is still a little debate of $199 head unit that plays MP3 CD's vs a $399 head unit that controls the iPod...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Too bad. If the iPod adapter is the best effort VW can summon up, they're in the ****. Their interface is appalling. Apple could only improve it.

                              Huge loss.
