    Hi Guys

Finally got a day off work and took our golf to A & B Automotive. Only just made it there, was a stressful trip!

First inspection they said was promising as oil is not burnt.
They are going to check sump and get back to me today or tomorrow.
Best case is $3600 for valve body, worst case is around $7,000 if transmission is gone..
They are also going to confirm from VW if the Valve Body is improved from original design or exactly the same.
New Valve body has 12months/20,000km warranty from VW

    cheers

So since I've owned my car I've had a new radiator (warranty), new air con (warranty), and now a new transmission (partially covered under warranty).

        I have a new car lol !!!
VW phoned me on Tuesday morning, they said as my car isn't at a VW dealership/service centre and therefore can't be inspected by there own people they can't assist with any parts or repair costs.

Yes this is the same issue I am faced with. Gearbox is apart at A&B in Victoria, car is in Qld. Now I have to pay to have it put back together, shipped back to Qld, reinstalled into car and towed to VW dealer for them to assess the box/fault. If I have A&B do the work it will be $8k so the gamble is that VW will actually come good with a goodwill claim for the mechatronic unit once its together.

While I dislike warranty companies, they still contributed $1400.00 towards the end repair, the less I have to spend the better.

              Car is driving beautifully now

Im hoping its more than the valve body getting done on these repairs, ive seen these boxes opened up and the valve body isnt the big fix from what ive seen, this is my take along with a tonne of info from the auto trans guy i use. Very minimum is at least uprate the valve body , reaming out the valve body and fitting new sleeves and solenoids and an overhaul, seen too many valve body only repairs now with return visits to the dealer. Guy i use does dealers boxes now ftw. If anyone needs his contact im happy to help out there.
                Cheers

Hi guys, hope nobody minds me bumping an old thread,

I bought a used Golf mkV in 2020 not knowing this gearbox was an issue. Thanks to this site iv found alot of useful information.

Adding to this topic, my 09G is spazzing out after about 20mins of driving. I dont doubt its the valve body/mechatronics issue as stated in this thread. I have no idea what to do now. I brought her to VW in Indooroopilly and they said they need to run a diagnostics check and pull her apart to define the issue, at a cost of $180 per hour just to confirm that it is indeed the same issue returning, as she had a recall repair in 2010.

So far im going down the road of chasing VW to pay for this mess. As stated above - I hope they can organise a goodwill repair. Problem is, its now 2023......Am I crazy in chasing VW to fix this?

Yep you crazy. VW offered 3 years warranty, you now have a 15+year old car.

Hey I just noticed your intro thread. you say you have a DSG, but also mention 09G.
The issue on this thread is about the 09G 6 speed Tiptronic auto. it is a traditional auto with torque converter.
DSG is a very different beast.
