Yeah give you the you know whats with warranties. The price i have to say is reasonable though, i know it looks bad but ive seen up to 8K on the 09G, but i think by the sounds you got yours early. i would probably recommend the repair other than the second hand option to be fair especially if you think about keeping the car.
    hope it all goes well

Thanks for your input Jimmy, much appreciated mate.

I'll await their phone call next week and go from there.

I definitely don't want a second hand transmission and I'd like to keep the car for another year or so.

The transmission shop said the problems are common with this box, but also added the repaired box would be better than the original.

      Does that sound right?

Yes mate if they do it right and sounds like they have done a few, and remember you will have a warranty with that repair. One thing to ask is if the valve body is going to be one thats upgraded or solenoid sleeves redone, reamed and upgraded. Just simply fitting a valve body and recon is back to where it was new if that makes sense??
        Cheers

            update:

The warranty company "National Warranty" are claiming they will only cover the part that failed (valve body in this case) + associated labour, what's even worse is they will only supply "like for like" in their terms and conditions as the chap on the end of the phone line was happy to explain !!!

In plain language a second hand part, not new wtf.

When asked if they would then continue to warrant said second hand part they said NO! They'd only continue to cover the parts if they were "new" parts.

So I'm about to be out of pocket to the tune of $4000 because of these robbers !!!

I'm gonna take this as high as I can, VW will be receiving a call too as these 09G tiptronic transmissions are all failing due to this part, VW have you sitting on a very expensive "time bomb". Let's not forget the air con system (which has also been replaced recently) !!!

I'd be interested in your feedback lads.

Well, ne response from VW, this week I'll be handing over $4000.00 to the transmission shop.

They're not using any second hand parts

So since I've owned my car I've had a new radiator (warranty), new air con (warranty), and now a new transmission (partially covered under warranty).

                I have a new car lol !!!

                  Any news from your end?

I'm having a similar problem. 2007 tdi dsg. 100000 kms mechatronic failure. Extended warranty stating same deal, only willing to cover $1500 of $8000 quote for repairs. gearbox currently at transmission specialist. VW Aust considering goodwill contribution to repair. have been advised that they sometimes pay for full replacement.

Sorry to hear about the troubles but the experience with the warranty mobs is typical. They weasel out of everything and are usually not worth the paper they're written on.
