The two things Gavin has noted here - as soon as (well, within 50milliseconds maybe) you take your foot off the brake, do you have forward movement? And, when you go to accelerate do you get instant drive or does the engine rev likes it's in neutral for a second.
I would also add to that, do you get a strong shudder when accelerating away as this can suggest a problem.
Ah ok I'll give it a try.
AFAIK accelarating in general doesn't cause the car to shudder or bunny hop.

Also, the other good test I found worked was when driving in stop start traffic, does the gearbox transition from neutral to 1st and 1st to 2nd smoothly on part throttle? If there is any kind of shuddering or slipping as you take off-crawl-stop then there is a problem. Had an A3 loan car and it did it something fierce

You'll find that there are two distinct behaviours when accelerating from a stop up a slight incline.
If you are hard on the brake pedal, then accelerate away, there'll be a bit of a lag and some snatch as the gearbox engages.
If however, you only apply just enough brake to prevent the car rolling back, you'll find that the car will drive away very smoothly when you accelerate.
I'm now in the habit of easing off the brake as the traffic is ready to go, eliminating what I originally saw as a DSG issue.
