Up to 55,000 ks and almost 3 years on the original and no issues.

Just bought a smart charger for a caclium-calcium battery in another car.
Wondering if using it on the MkV 's battery (original) would extend its life?

Not sure what I was smoking when I said 5 years above. Its more like 4 years given my car was delivered in Sep 2007.

Anyway I just replaced the battery with a Century. Starts much better now.

Right on 6 years and 74000km for our 2005 2.0 FSI auto. Mostly city driving. Pleasantly surprised with that.

Does anyone know if the factory battery is what they call, 'calcuim-calcium'?
And if so, whether you can extend its life by plugging in a smart-charger which is meant to condition the battery?
(Which I bought for a car just sold...)

6 years @ 74,000kms not sure if it matters but it has sunroof &heated seats. Still going strong will probably replace it soon though just cause its probably pushing my luck

Famous last words but for me:

3yrs2mo still going on original battery, 30000km travelled only. Starts like a dream.
