Hi Andrew,

How are the coilovers going?? did they give you the handling improvements you were expecting? i'm thinking about coilovers as well, i'm tossing up between KW V2's, Koni's (same as yours) and Bilsteins PSS10 (providing i want to fork out alot more, not sure if it's worth the extra $$ for my purposes though which will be mainly road use with the odd track day). hows's the ride compared to stock and what damper settings have you settled on??

appreciate any feedback you might have on the Koni's

Hi Dooby,
The ride is a bit harder than standard. My partner got carsick on the first weekend away in it so I have raised it a bit. I have set the shockers to 1/2 turn off soft and it is a lot better. The height is 30m/m lower than stock.
The handling is improved though I think swaybars are next on the list.
Over larger bumps in the road the rear feels like its bottoming out which it isnt. I think the springs might be a little soft, thats my thought. However having harder springs would be detrimental to the ride! I really would like to get it out to the local racetrack, Baskerville to try them out properly.
I would like to hear others experiences with other brands.

Soft blow the insert in, too easy!

Simply do up the bolt to spec, all done and a massive improvement

I am told you have installed this incorrectly as you appear to have two small washers then the large washer then the insert.
The samll washer should be under the large washer so basically there is a small washer either side of the large one.

I found this out when asking on another forum if the neuspeed insert is better that the APR one.

I tend to agree with whats said as it does look wrong having 2 small washers where you have them.

There is the insert, the large washer and then the one original spring washer fitted. The bolt has a flange on it.

Did the insert come with a new washer? There should be a washer that fits in the hole of the insert, then the big washer, then whatever you originally had on your car.

Correct, so as happy as he is it is still incorrectly installed. n:
The small washer that came with the kit as pictured in the OP's first picture showing the kit uninstalled should be installed into the hole in the insert, then the large washer ,then as you said, whatever was originally on the car.

I'm not picking or trying to make anyone look wrong. Im just pointing it out for others that are thinking of doing the install themselves.
It could effect the life of the insert.

Andrew has more VW mechanical experience than all but 1 or 2 people on here who have about the same amount.

I reckon that you will find that (despite assuming that it is wrong below the part that is unseen) it is installed correctly.

What you do below the large washer (below being toward the nut head) is up to you, you can put tassles on it if that is your thing.

Hi Andrew,

Just put some KW v2 coilovers on my car together with a front and rear eibach sway bar. I've got the front bar on soft and the rear on hard. Front and rear shocks both set at half way. The ride is about 25% tighter with very little understeer now, very neutral feeling to the cars handling. To me it only feels about 10% harsher over factory which is good for me seeing as i live with Sydney roads.

my only real issue is that i sometimes get coil slapping if i push the car hard. It depends on how the turn is banked and which way i am turning. not sure if i'm explaining it right, apart from that the car handles brilliantly.

i'm yet to use it on a real drive.

Hey Dooby, thats great news apart from the coil bind. Swaybars sound the go mate. So the KWs arent too harsh in the ride?

Like you i was initially worried about harshness but the kw's are very nice in terms of ride quality. Something i can live with everyday. As for the coilbind, well, i can always get them sleeved. They only complain when i push them so it's not that bad.

Well, I finally went the APR fuel pump mod last weekend,
The GTI has a fair bit more midrange power, no pics to go with this but I am very happy with it.
And with cooler weather down here I am looking forward to winter and even more power!

Being the inexperienced and still in the learning stage of things, are fuel pumps actually that effecient in delievering more power? Would that mean fuel consumption would be on the rise too?
