Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

      Are you sure about that?
      Firstly, it's the SC5P
And next, Continental's website, both the Global and Australian one, do not list a 225/40R18...

        The SC5's do come in 225 40 18, even better they also come in 225 45 17.
The SC5P's do not come in either of these sizes.

lol... SC5's aren't on the Continental site either! What's going on? They must be pretty new. No photos on tirerack with that link you provided either.

I'll wait eagerly to see some reviews and what the diff is between them and the 5P's.

Yes, the SportContact5 was indeed released at the beginning of this year, though info was somewhat patchy at the time.

At a brief glance, it appears that the SC5 and SC5P differentiate themselves by taking care of different market segments (normal/sporty/SUV vs. sports/tuned cars). You can kinda tell by the tyre sizes they're available in.

That's funny, because I've had two on my S3 for almost a month now.

I got a bad puncture on my front left and wanted to replace both tyres on the front axle. I had Assym1 all round and have been very happy with them. I asked the tyre place for Assym1s but they turned out to be Assym2s, which is not that ideal, but never mind. The tyres themselves, so far, have been excellent, just would prefer the same model on all four wheels.

I had probably done almost 10,000kms on the Assym1, including a track day at Wakefield Park and the wear rate was looking pretty damn good I have to say. Not sure what the dude was doing if he was running out of rubber after 15,000kms???

Anyway, I've had plenty of Goodyear tyres and been very happy with them. They're not cheap (cost me $795 for 2 @ 225/40/1, but they're quality.

I had some Michelin Pilot Precedas on my MINI and they were the worst tyres I've ever had (except for some Yokohamas way back when that has put me off Yokies for life). Kumho KU31s at less than half the price crap all over them, for example. Pilot Sports would be much better, I expect.

wouldnt surprise me that Goodyear Oz don't know what they are talking about.

A few years ago, when the Assy1s were released, I was quoted for some by a local dealer. I contacted Goodyear directly to get a price/more details and was told they werent available in Australia for another 2-3 months. I got them fitted that week

So after starting this thread....never thought it would start something!

I finally let impatience get the better of me, and got 4 x F1A2's fitted last week to the R32. I had to drive to wollongong today for a meeting from Sydney, and decided on the way home to come via the national park

I had done 200 km's on them to wear them in, and all I can say is....they were awesome...the ride is great, really low noise, the grip was solid, accelerating through a corner (admittedly not that fast) felt firm and controlled. Now I have nothing else to compare them to apart from the poor tyres on previously and some Falken 912s, but they feel great...would definitely recommend

Indeed...they weren't cheap?! in fact the best (and most expensive tyres) I have spent money on. But don't regret it yet, here's is just hoping they last!

I just changed all four corners to Michelin PS3. Prior to that I was on CS2. First of all, the ride quality improved a little. Less noise and slightly more comfy (but it may be due to fresh rubber). On the day I changed the tyres, it rained and when I drove out on the wet, it didnt feel as planted as the CS2. I feel that the CS2 responds better in the wet. But having said that (being in melbourne with tram tracks), it didnt slide around as much as the CS2 when I am on top of the tracks. Driving in the dry, didnt really feel much difference to the CS2 except for noise. Much much quieter. I am not sure how stiff the PS3 sidewalls are compared to the CS2 but it doesnt feel like its rolling alot. I had a pair of RE001 before and they were soft.

I read somewhere that the PS3 are softer tyres and there are concerns about wear. But IMO, it comes down to the way you drive. Overall, I am pretty happy with the purchase.
