and may not know if it requires an up shift or a down shift while feathering????. I'd agree if you were driving smoothly through
all gears and a jolt could be felt in 5th to 6th transition then possibly the DSG is at fault...But trying to cause a problem will cause a
    problem????
The problem is there under normal driving loads, the feathering was done to deliver a more pronounced problem, but the problem was there in both instances. I hope this clears things up for you. I'm starting to think you developed the DSG box because of how defensive you are about it.

Anyway i have an update, the techs have my car today, they dissengaged the haldex system and the problem went away. So the good news is they have isolated where the issue is.

The bad news... They are trying to palm this off as a normal thing for the Haldex unit to do.... I have had the car for 2 years, 15,000 kms. If it was a normal thing then it would have done this from when i rolled off the showroom floor.

Going in to pick the car up now and discuss next steps which will no doubt involve their tech from Melb to go for a drive with me in the car.
    Will keep you all posted.

Apparently, they will run some further diagnostics and if required they will be replacing the whole DSG Unit. Taking the car there on 22 August and they need it for 2 weeks.

Ill keep you guys posted on any further progress!
Get them to disable the Haldex system so drive is just going to the front wheels and see if the problem persists. Will be interesting to see if this is the same issue i have had, and they are likely to be more inclined to fix this issue i would think as this is less expensive than replacing the entire DSG.

I am not sure if it is a problem with the Haldex system itself or with the mechanicals in the rear diff when the Haldex system diverts power to the rear.

Will want to get this sorted before even looking at the Haldex 2 system as this may not fix the problem and no doubt VWA will void the warranty.

With the way VWA have behaved so far... I can't risk them using this as an excuse to avoid fixing the problem.

hey mate, iv picked up the car and now we are in the same situation. they are saying its a normal for the haldex system to do this.. loud bang when DSG changes from 5th to 6th? doesn't sound right..

still thinking about what to do next..how did you go?

There will be minimum drive from the rear esp when in 5th grear to 6th.
Haldex works on diff in wheel speed. There is always some as rolling radius is never equal front to rear.
If you look a the drive chart for the Haldex it would have minimal effect unless the front wheels were starting to slip or you were going around a corner fast. (original controller).

hi all.. don't bother with VW, they just keep saying "normal characteristics for the haldex system".. didn't know a loud bang in 5th gear is a normal characteristic for an R32. if i knew that, i wouldn't have bought one.

either way, I'm selling it now.. over this whole debate. iv put an order through for the BMW 1M.

thank you to all those who have responded and helped me out in the past.
