Firstly, Sorry n3mi for my lack of response to your PM's, I wasn't ignoring you, I was just having further issues and I wasnt keen on getting VWA off side while I was attempting to get the problem resolved, again, Sorry.
Hi Matchew
No worries mate, I couldn't agree with you're view more..
Keep us updated if any further issues arise.
I am expecting feedback from VW Australia next week but the tech in Adelaide believes a new box is required.
I will be insisting for a new warranty from VW for the new box.
Will keep you posted on progress.
Cheers,
D
Hi DGen
Glad to see there has been some progress, since the last time we spoke!
What do you mean by new box? Have you told them about the weird noise in the engine while idle?
Ill be going into the dealership this week and checking what the next step is to fixing the noise in 5th to 6th gear. Hopefully, they come up with the same suggestion..
My mistake i did read that paragraph incorrectly!! But that does not mean that "feathering" on the accelerator trying to make something
happen means that the DSG is faulty!!! By feathering or whatever that means have you ever thought that the DSG may be confused
and may not know if it requires an up shift or a down shift while feathering????. I'd agree if you were driving smoothly through
all gears and a jolt could be felt in 5th to 6th transition then possibly the DSG is at fault...But trying to cause a problem will cause a
problem????
My 08 GTI DSG was under warranty when the car would buck when reversing (after the engine was hot).
Luckily the foreman tested my car and found that problem, literally within 1 minute!
They replaced the mechatronic control unit which solved that problem.
You guys and your bloody mechatronics faults are making me wonder about my own car.
Can you describe in a bit more detail the "bucking" when putting it into reverse? Mine has some strange jerks at times too but I always attributed this to the fact that it is dual clutch and feels different to other conventional autos. I haven't had the chance to ride in anyone else's car with DSG unfortunately so don't know if it's normal.
I don't have any other problems with the 5th / 6th gear but when engine is cold and in stop/start traffic I notice the car will "buck" and slow itself down considerably when in 2nd at about ~20kph, but I always thought again this was normal and was the reason everyone complained about their dsg's?
I dont know everything about dsg's but it sees to me that most issues regarding improper gear selection must be related to the mechatronics. I have had my whole gearbox rebuilt due to a rattle but there was never any gear change issues like the ones people talk about on these forums-none whatsoever! I only had a rattle which most said was the dual mass flywheel and vwa decided to rebuild the whole trans. The gear selection feels exactly as it did b4 so its not the dsg itself but obvioiusly the mechatronics which governs this. I guess its a matter of, "Is it a big enough issue now?" or "Will it become a bigger issue in the future?". I guess we will never know and some mechatronics will have nigling little faults and never fail and some may get worse and **** themselves and I guess its all a risk we take. The plus side is the mechatronics is the least most expensive part and the most likely cause of all thse issues. So not a big worry I would have thought.
Mmmm... Spend $4,500 on one part that may or may not be the problem on a gearbox that you can entirely trust not to fail at some point, and then cost the world to repair when (not if) it eventually fails, or buy a manual gearbox, and have years of trouble free motoring... Tough decision...
You can point out to me till you are blue in the face that gear changes are smoother over a manual, or that the 0 to 100 time is 0.0000000274 of a second faster when using a DSG gearbox, but you don't have to rely on your extended warranty to wait to replace your manual gearbox...
"If can't get behind your troops, feel free to stand in front of them..."
Ok, so I just got off the phone with VW Glen Waverley.
Apparently, they will run some further diagnostics and if required they will be replacing the whole DSG Unit. Taking the car there on 22 August and they need it for 2 weeks.
My DSG was first diagnosed with a fault by CAMDEN GTI who rang Barlo at Straithfield and explain the situation , i then went to barlo while they took a diagnostic of the Gearbox but they could not decipher the fault codes and sent them off to Germany, they then called me to say they would upgrade the software and bring in the car, there was no improvement they then sent off another lot of data to VWA.
Again no one could explain the problem , So i wrote to VWA myself telling them that they knew what the issue was and had been told by Camden GTI who used to work as foreman for Barlo, the next day i got a phone call from VWA telling me a new mechatronics unit was now at Barlos ready for installation, so in the car went again and i was given a loan car ,next day Barlo rang to say the mechatronics unit didn't fix the problem and were now sourcing a new gearbox from Germany 5 days later i picked up my car with new box installed.
I don't know why so many get the run around when VWA knows exactly what the problem is .
new gearbox from germany was installed within 5 days? I think they're tellin fibs. All boxes ive ordered from germany have taken 3-4weeks. 2 weeks absolute earliest.

The new box came from Germany weather it was sent from VWA to Barlo or sourced from interstate it originated from Germany as it was a complete new DSG box. i have all paper work on it including an extra 2 year warranty on the gearbox from install date.
Mine was rebult in Sydney VW apparently. I dont know who to trust. They told me that it would take 3 months to get a new box from Singapore no mention of Germany at all. I neve got a new warranty with my "Rebuilt" dsg and im taking it back cos its still rattles!
generally we supply the box from wherever is closest/quickest, most of the time there is no stock in Oz, occasionally singapore has some but mostly all from germany.
