Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

            No, it was optional.
            Usually retailed for $1850.
            Very happy with mine.
The aftermarket versions were $2000+ and looked added on.

Stumbled across a DIY way to hook up a towbar to CAN BUS cars, such as the VW's for about $50 plus towbar. Wish I'd seen this at purchase time, would have saved me about a grand!

                          Remove the tailgate trim

                          Can anyone help me?

I was teaching my daughter to drive and we had a slight mishap reversing into an overhanging tree.

There is a minor dint in the tailgate just to the left of the right hand reverse light cluster. I reckon if I could get the tailgate trim off I could push it out but I don't know how to get the plastic trim off.

                          Any clues?

                          Thanks,

                          H

AC Evaporator Drain - access on RHD Golfs.

This might be useful for anyone who wants to check whether their AC evaporator drain is blocked. Perhaps due to noticing water on the carpet, or mouldy smell when running the AC. Probably applies to all Golf V models, and also Jettas of the same vintage.

Anyway, here's my post from another website, including photos. I can't work out how to put up pix here!

please help: where's the AC drain on the Golf V GTI? - VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum - Golfmkv.com

It's a rather more complicated procedure on our RHD cars, compared to left, but still do-able. Looks like you won't be able to easily access the evaporator drain from outside the car, so this seems to be the only way to get to it.

Any questions, please feel free to ask!

                              cheers
