Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Hey Geoff.

Spoke with my dealer and he said "They are factory fitted only"
Had a look at Ebay and they have some from America.
You might like to check it out.
My dealer seems to think the factory option is around $350.00

      Neil,
So are you saying to buy them from ebay and get the dealer to fit them?

Not sure about that one Geoff.

The dealer indicated they can't fit them after it leaves the factory,
Which I find a bit strange. He did say they have a seperate harness
which is only put in during the build for fogs, if it has been optioned.

Depends if you actally want to use them, or just for display.
Can't believe a dealer can't just get the fogs for you if thats all you want.
Reading a few other threads regarding having towing equipment fitted
it would seem wiring is a bit complicated on new VW to protect the systems.

I expect we will not be seeing you much now you have your new toy.
Don't forget the pic's with the car bra film, and your thoughts on the product
        after its fitted.
        Neil.

I have been working out the "feature set" of the AVIC-HD3.
Have to take it back to Autobarn so the can FIX the AM radio reception (tested AM reception on VW tuner & it worked fine, so it is probably a wiring goof by Autobarn) plus the analogue speed info to the AVIC doesn't seem to be working. Once again probably a cabling goof.
Oh yeah, we had a bit of a mix up with the rear parking camera, wasn't installed, BUT in my email clarification to them for a final fixed quote I didn't mention it
More to follow after I have played around a bit more - currently making .cda audio disks from some of my rather long .mp3 files...

the antenna in the vw's is a dual diversity antenna, one for am one for fm, i bet they plugged in the fm one not the am. with the am you still get great fm reception, but not the other way around (ie fm antenna = horrid am reception)

better off installing an on glass bosch autofun antenna.

Photos with the Euro plates fitted..

They fit just nice. The front plates are screwed directly into the chrome plastic

I have started a thread in the Audio section re the Pioneer AVIC-HD3 install.
