Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. Hi all,

First time post here. Great forum and a good community.

I asked my dealer to enable auto mirror dip and auto door locking when I picked up my Red 5 door GTI two weeks ago. They enabled the auto lock when the car reaches 15km/h (makes the wife feel safer) but they said that for cars without Sat Nav they couldn't enable the auto dip. Not sure if this is right but that was the excuse they gave me anyway.

Will try putting the mirror selector to L and hitting reverse tonight to see if anything happens.

Loving the car atm. Got it 2 days before my wedding and the (new) wife and the (new) car and I drove 1200km on our honeymoon. Pure bliss

I haven't got a VW SatNav and my Autodip works fine. Had to get it programmed by the dealer after delivery, but no biggy.

I wouldn't think there is any difference between the Golf and the Jetta re this issue - may be wrong though.

Mine's part of the first batch of 3drs in the country. It has DSG and PDC and it does the auto mirror dip on reverse (No Sat Nav)

IIRC mirror dip is only available on cars with electric folding mirrors... (ie mirrors that you can fold in electrically when parked etc.)
Would love to be wrong though - I want this on my GTI but it didnt seem possible to select it through the MFD. I havent asked the dealer.

You ARE wrong. The Jetta doesn't have electric folding mirrors, but does have both Mirror Dip and Mirror Sync.

Have we resolved if the Dip feature is only available on cars WITH the rear parking sensors (ie: anyone with Dip feature without rear sensors?)

Maybe mirror dip is only on Jettas (Mexico) and 3 door GTIs (Germany), but not on any Golf built in South Africa?

My MY08 GTI doesnt have this feature. I went thru the manual today at the section where it says to enable it in menu. And the mirror dipping option is not even in the menu. All the other options are. It also says that it may or may not be there depending on the spec of your car.

Sounds like a typical VW thing. Slight changes in spec along the way will see features appear and disappear.
I have a long driveway at home anyways so i think it would have just ended in tears for me after i backed into the brick fence cos my mirrors had dipped and i couldnt see properly.

Same Tim... My 5 Door MY08 GTI has Mirror Sync but the menu option for Mirror Dip doesnt exist. I thought maybe there was a mechanical reason if it was matched with the electric folding mirrors but obviously not.

The MKV mirrors are really good i have found. You can actually get a good view of the rear wheel without adjusting it down much at all.

Couple of extra things to throw into mix...
Some UK cars have mirror dip in an option pack that includes auto dimming side mirrors - linked to the rear view mirror - havent worked out if mine does that yet...
Also they talk about the led lights in the side mirrors shining on the doors in "leaving home" or "coming home" mode - my headlights come on but no lights on the mirrors when i unlock...

It must be either a VAGCOM setting or different firmware - now i want to know the answer!

It's a white LED that shines downwards to illuminate the ground.
It's not on all mirrors in all markets.

                              Thanks for clearing that up!

Would be handy to make up a list of actual vehicles and the options they have fitted both with and without mirror dip.

Has anybody successfully enabled this via VAGCOM or dealer where it wasnt previously available? i.e. added the mirror dip option to the MFD menu where it didnt exist before.

Haha I was waiting for someone to say something. Let's say it would still have been bliss without the car there but having the GTI along was the icing on the cake.

Btw, I've tried selecting "L" and putting the car in reverse and nothing happened with the mirrors. Mine is a 5 door, 2007 build, with no satnav and no auto mirror folding. Has anyone with with similar specs been able to enable auto mirror dipping?

Also, my running-in period ended yesterday, so I'm a free man!! (This is a reference to the car not my wife in case anyone was wondering).
