Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Mirror dip in reverse stopped dipping?

You will need to pre-set the dip.
Do this putting in into reverse, selecting 'L' and adjust the mirror to face the kerb as you want it. This will now be the pre-set position.
When you start moving forward (have to reach 15km/h), the mirror will return to its normal driving view.
Leave the mirror in 'L' though, and every subsequent time you put the car into reverse it will dip to the pre-set position.

Mirror Dipping Activation
Picking my new 5dr Red GTi up on Thursday, after reading this thread asked for mirror dipping to be activated.
Dealer response was no problem, they just have to email their pre-delivery boys to get them to do it.
Cool...

Got the 15000km service done yesterday and ask for the mirror dip to be enabled and was told. Yep can do that. All good i thought.
Picked it up in the arvo and was told that because the car has mirror sync it cant have mirror dip.I don't remember having mirror sync. They said jetta as passats can have mirror dip but not my GTI .
Got in the car and sure enough i have mirror sync.
Should they be able to turn off the mirror sync and turn on mirror dip? I didn't know enough to argue with them. Might have to look into going to another dealer that is a bit more knowledge able. Only go to this one as they give me a free loan car when servicing as i bought the car from them.
Maybe i should look into getting my own VAG-COM.

If you set the switch to R, it will only move the right mirror, right? not both???

When it is on L only the left one moves.
So what you do is set the Right one where you want it (the left will move while you do it)
Set the left one where you want it (the right will stay still)
Both are now set correctly.
Wifey gets in the car. Moves seat then puts it into R and can adjust both mirrors at once.
Would much prefer mirror dip though.

I thought that we have confirmed this is part of the MkV functionality..
Whether it is enabled or not , seems somewhat haphazard atm.
Note to VW Aust - This feature - should be enabled on all cars - rather handy me thinks.. Otherwise - should be ticked off as part of the pre-delivery checklist in order to avoid any confusion.
Ie - check . .fuel
check - tyre pressure
check - engine oil
check - mirror dip or not
