Got the impression that only he could source the 5x112 and that was the price. Mind you, I can understand where he is coming from.

Yep, BJ tried to source from Vince, but his quoted price to them was only marginally under what he quoted me, meaning still miles out.

The really silly thing is: tirerack.com have them in stock, can ship in 6 days, have the right stud pattern/offset, choice of finishes and can supply for $375AUD given the current exchange rate. Freight is only $200AUD. Even if i have to pay40% import, they are still only $526 each.
You'd be mad not to order them from Tirerack then. Very reputable company have been supplying to the VWVortex crowd for yonks. You'll pay a bit of duty but not much at that price.

    Cheers Al

      like I said tirerack.com

They are gonna cost you less than $600 landed and taxed. Why bother with the local distributor if that is his attitude. He obviously doesn't understand his market and the ease of which stuff like this can be bought in for half price. If he (Vince) had offered to negotiate with me at the time of my purchase then I would've gone local. He must sell enough wheels to not have to negotiate. If that is the case then good luck to him. Vive da netz!

Hi i actually have a 2006 VW Golf R32 as well and was looking to change into some OZ rims. I recently got a quote from OZ Australia....`and the price is insane ....... Ultraleggra cost 1.1k AUD per rim 19".... WTF.....
Locel dealer supply it at 550 per rim... I just don't get it.....

Blur 32 can you give me the spec for the wheel fitment (ie offset, bolt size pattern) for R32 2006? I am thinking of importing it. Thanks

Wish Aust had a place liek tireracks.com would be so much easier.

Ordering tonight!!!! $532 per rim taxed by my calculations + freight.

Whilst I can understand his frustrations with parallel importation, I was a little annoyed by his approach, to quote: "but I have 5x112 which is what you need". And the price quoted was in excess of $1000 per rim. Maybe they have enough motorsport action to kkep 'em flat out????

He does a lot of Porsche club guys who don't really care about cost. When the Ultraleggera came out he was asking 1600 a wheel. I was after Superleggeras and luckily he had two sets left he wanted to get rid of and I got a good price because I took both sets and they were superceded by the Ultra's.

In saying that he is probably somewhat hamgstrung on what he can charge as he would be paying duty +GST and wouldn't be able to do the volume that Tire Rack do so would probably pay more than they do as well. It's much the same for any product for our cars, I got four new slotted OEM rotors from ECS tuning for my R for $1000 landed where VW here wanted $600 for one

Same goes with the swaybars, skidplate and almost everything else on my car; cheaper from the states.

Anyway good luck with the order I'm sure you'll have no problems with TireRack. Make sure you post pics once you get them on the car.

              Cheers Al

Al: thanks for all your help with this. I would prefer to buy local as a franchise owner of a retail store myself, so it's a pity...but

Will definitely post pics once they are here!

No problem, my pleasure; When it's that much difference you have to look after yourself first.

Davoaldo: apologies for the late reply. MkV R32 runs a 5x112 stud pattern with a 51mm offset. Factory rims are 18"x7.5" on 225/40 tyres. If you plan on staying with 18", the factory tyre will fit anything from 7.5" (a little baggy as per factory) to 9" (stretched) widths. Ideal widths for 225/40 is 8" to 8.5"

You can drop as low as 42mm offset if you are staying with a 7.5" width, 8" you can go to 45/46mm and any wider you need to stick with 50mm+

Plesae note that I am not a tyre tech (I sell computers) and this info has been gathered from forums and talking to tyre outlets

You Have Got To Be Kidding..............

What have I ever done to anyone????? My wheel woes continue:

Contacted tirerack.com to order rims and had to go thru their service desk directly as there is no shipping info to Aust on their standard ordering page. Their rsponse was: "sorry, we don't do that rim for that car."

This contrary to the wheel selection guide!!!!

What am i doing wrong? Why does no one want my money? Someone shoot me please, before this wheel saga of 8 months does my head in completely!

No MKV R32 in the states yet is all I can think of. Go to this forum on Vortex and ask Eric from Tire Rack. You'll probably get more help there.

Al: Again, you're a source of most help! Will try online tonight.

I thought the R32 had just gone on sale as an '08 model (hate those new OEM rims!)? I used the GTI to order on, as the stud pattern and offset for 18" is the same

Will keep you posted on how this works tonight

If you don't have any luck let me know I have some mates over there on the R-Defined forum who should be able to help get a person at Tire Rack you can ring and speak to voice who will know what's what.

trust me, you'll know when i finally get something. And I wont need to post, you'll hear me from anywhere!!!

The guys from tirerack got back to me last night, they are "going to try again" to see what they can do. They paniced 'cause they don't have any rims listed for the '08 R32 yet. I explained that whatever they had for the '07 GTI would fit, so we'll see what happens know!
