The RNS 510 arrived this morning and as of now its in and running ,with a few drama's
I removed the old unit OK but the FM and analog plugs were different rang VW to see if there was an adapter as the plugs on the RNS 510 C were too close together for the 2 single plugs to fit ,could only sell me a whole new cable?
So i rang Camden GTI and spoke to Golf Loon and he said to bring it over and his tech would fit it for me.
All i can say is what good people they are ,had to cut the sides of the original plugs so both could fit ,reinstalled the whole new unit and coded it to the car , now all turns and information is up on the MDF and every thing is working ,
And the best part is he only charged me for one hour $88 including a discount for being a Watercooled Member
Ian... congrats on the RNS mate. Yeah i had to do the same with my install for the Antenna adapters, you can source it from kufatec.com...

VW Antenna adapter Navigation RNS 510 FAKRA [36197] - $34.95 : Kufatec USA, Inc., The #1 Supplier of OEM Volkswagen & Audi Retrofit Harnesses in the World

I later ordered the above and worked perfectly.... Do you have full MFD or half MFD in your Golf?

Gotta say i really like the way it integrates with the MFD, espescially navigation ect... Nothing like having a new toy in the car to play with.

Cutting them isn't the right way to do it as they can work their way out and over time the connections become too loose.

There are multiple ways to do this and if you have a MY07 or earlier it's around $15 in parts or $40 for a MY08 or later. All parts available from your local dealer.

Mine is the full MFD, ive got a 2009 Mark 5 GTi.

680C? as in the RNS' firmware? or you mean 2680 and C Version of the RNS510? I have the same one, its supposed to have the LED backlit screen as opposed to the LCD screen of the older models.

New firmware supports upto 32GB SDHC, which is what swayed me in the end to go for RNS510 as opposed to RCD510, at the time RCD510 was the only HU that supported upto 32GB SDHC, RNS' old firmware didnt do so....

Well it looks real good! Enjoy!

Would you believe i rang VW at Penrith when i discovered the difference in the plugs and spoke to IAN at the spare parts counter and after looking for over 20 minutes he couldn't find what i was after i explained exactly the problem but all he could suggest was to buy a new complete aerial cable , This is the second time Ive rang Penrith and there hopeless ??

Well it looks good even with a few drama's ,but all worked out OK and he made sure that the modified plugs would not move so every thing should be OK , going to THiroul on Saturday for a 21 ST will give it a run .

Good stuff Ian! So I better buy an adapter plug then. Works out well, I should be able to have it here at the same time my RNS 510 arrives.
