mine just arrived too... I hope swapping and recoding is straight forward...

just a question to you who has installed it, does putting the gps antenna in the dash between aircond vent is any better or any worse compared to what I was told the factory location is in the roof near the sunroof control/dome light assembly?

Works perfectly fine in the dash between aircon vent. Thats where mine is and i get a fix on 9/12 sattelites. Although from what i have read if you get a fix on 4 sattelites that is generally enough.

      Good Luck with the install.

Don't forget a possible aerial adapter and changes to the wiring for the cd changer and aux input.

It's not as good as the factory location but unless you feel like pulling the roof lining down to install the factory antenna I wouldn't bother. The factory GPS antenna BTW is at the rear of the roof in the centre, not under the sheet metal at the front. It requites clear line of sight to the sats and must not be under metal.

Ordered my unit last Wednesday, landed here on Monday. Unit was sent from Lithuania. Unit was in great condition no scratches or marks on the fascia or screen. Took about an hour to swap out in my MY10 Multivan. Couple of adjustments with VAGCOM and everything was working beautifully with full integration to MFSW and MFD. Everything was plug and play.

Also purchased bluetooth kit but installing that will probably take a little longer as I need to mount the control box and then run the cable up a-pillar for mic.

the rear of the roof? gosh that'll be a lot of work, as I got sunroof... I guess between the vents should be sufficient and easier

Mk 5, Mk 6 should be a straight swap.

As you have a Mk 6 without satnav from the factory you would have to drill a hole in the roof, the Mk 5 has an antenna there already and you just swap it with a combo antenna.

Mine works perfectly shows the street your traveling on on the MDF and shows all turns ,compass ,
If you have a Mark 6 its heaps easy compared to the mark 5 and the aftermarket GPS Aerial works a treat.

Ian, I have dealt with Nepean Motor Group spares dept a few times, and it is tedious... Just ordering a sump plug for a Suzuki Sierra took 30 minutes!

So to clarify, does this Lithuanian unit fit an mkV MY07 GTI, and does it have bluetooth?

Yes it will fit straight swap ,but will need coding for steering wheel controls to work properly, and for the MDF.
Blue tooth is a a separate attachment for the RNS510 and will have to be sourced separately.

Well my adapter arrived today for the twin aerial's for the RNS510 took about 30 minutes all up, now the AM radio is not cutting out, so you defiantly need it to get every thing to work, and it only took 6 days to get here from Europe, and it was less than half price of what we pay in Australia?

well decided to just install the gps antenna above the air duct, had to remove the a/c front panel (2 screws)...

works beautifully now... kind of missing the 6cd stacker function of rcd510 but with most of my fav cds are ripped into mp3 and copied into internal hdd, there's no need to keep 6 cd around in the car at once...
the internal fan can be a bit noisy though if i listen very very carefully...

I had my brother fit my RNS510 off Ebay last weekend. I have to say WOW, its a fantastic upgrade to a great car. The installation instructions I used worked beautifully and were very straight forward for us to follow. So far everything seems to work (I have a MY08 GTI) all MFD features work fine. So not sure if I need any additional VAGCOM programming. I have the car booked in for its 30k service next week, so was just going to ask them to fix any errors that appear.

The unit looks so much nicer in the interior too. For $999 delivered, I'm really stoked
