Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • I love the pirelli edition seats. Look amazing and are still very comfortable on long drives.

          • I love the look of MKVs... they are the best looking model when sitting next to both their older and younger siblings.

In particular I love the performance of my GT Sport coupled with the fuel efficiency. I could have only dreamed of getting 650km out of a tank for $65-70 back when I was driving a Mitsubishi Magna.

There is a huge amount of boot space, especially when the rear seats are down.. I can pack in my full 4x12" guitar cab, head, two guitars, massive amounts of pedals and two PA speakers with plenty of room still to spare.

            • Finally bought a mkv gti after lusting after one for nearly 10 years!

              Love the refinement.
Quality up there with the best.
Awesome power and silky smooth DSG.
I bought a 9 year old car that feels as tight as a 2 year old car! Testament to a well built car.

Only a couple of issues to fix.
Interior light switch is dead and stitching on drivers seat starting to come apart (3 cm long tear)

                • Hey greengti, I'd be checking dsg service has been down according to books.
You will be up for timing belts soon, otherwise if good condition sounds good.

CV boots (both boots on mine went at about 100,000kms and at 7 years)

See if you can get a VCDS cable and run a scan via the OBD2.

                    • I love the DSG !! .. I bought my Mk5 GTI a few months ago as a weekend track toy.

Always been a manual box man but cause the wifey needs to drive it sometimes, and wont learn manual, I went DSG.

Let me just say, on the track it was so much better than I would have ever expected, I had read every DSG v Manual debate on every VW forum, almost put me off..

The only real issue was the DSG did overheat a few times. I was running a Stg 1 Tune & going hard at Sandown.. I just need to learn to do a few more cool down laps in between
