Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    • > spell out why you like your MKV

For me it's simply because it's the last of the V6s.
.:R32 - because it's all about cubic inches.

                    • Found out today that the seat has a sensor or something to say someone is sitting there and doesnt have their seatbelt on.
Found out by putting my shopping on the seat and drove off and the seatbelt sound was going off.....drove me nuts till i removed the bag off the seat.

                      • I am truly astounded by the spec my base Jetta 2.0L FSI has.

Its making it hard to buy anything less eg Polo 77TSI or an up! or GT up! is they ever make it here.

                        • For me it came down to buying a refined hatchback, that looked good and drove and handled well!

I always loved the fact that VW squeezed in a 6 cylinder 3.2L engine into a hatchback and after driving one fell in love with the noise that the exhaust and engine made!

I was considering a MkIV R32 as well purely due to the awesomeness of its looks however in the end decided to go with the MkV as it was a 5DR and more practical...

                          • Just sold my 05 GTI, very sad day that was.

Always thought it was a great looking car that aged well. Obviously went well but not so intimidating that the wife wouldn't drive it - quite the opposite when she got the hang of it. It was practical for the family right up to the moment we had our 3rd!

It was easy to repair, basically just a torx set and you're good to go.

In a few years when the kids are at school we might look at a MK7 or 8 by then.

                            • For me - Last of the VR6 mated with a lightning quick DSG, especially when I found one in the "R" DBP blue, fully optioned with sunroof, the heated Recaro seats and reverse sensors, I couldn't resist.

Still small enough and 'girly' looking enough for the wife to be happy to drive around too.
