Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Bought my car on 27 April 2009 and now it's done just over 42,000km! Can't complain.

    1. Accelaration: Take off like a bullet in Sport mode (rev. all the way to 7,000 RPM sometimes)
    2. Stability: Stick like no other car and grip the corner very tight.
    3. Comfortable: Can't be more relaxed when I get into my car.
    4. Sound system: Straight from the factory but always but smile in my face when I turn up the volume.
    5. Petrol: Barely have to look at the pump or worry about spending more than $65 for a full tank (98 RON only)
    6. Economical: Compare to my previous car a Holden S VY, this one does easily over 700km at 55L.

    What more can I say?

Well I've now had my MY08 GTI Mk V for 4 weeks... its a 6spd manual version, in candy white! I just LOVE the car! Other than having a dead passenger front door lock (goes in to be fixed on Wednesday) its just a joy to drive...

Compared to my Forester I love this about it...
            Its fast!
The leather interior is far superior quality to the Foz
The driving position is soooo much better, you are actually sitting IN the car, with the car... in the Foz you sat like up on the car.. never really got used to that (former MX-5 driver here, so chalk n cheese) driving position.
Love the interior lights at night... dazzles
The ability to control all different aspects of how the car works via the MFD is brilliant...
Little things like auto wipers, auto door locking and parking assist is a treat to have... all new things compared to the cars I've previously owned.
Did I mention its fast and nimble and handles beautifully????
The car is sexy... I can go stand in the garage and just admire it all day long!

Must take some photos to add to my appreciation post here

also come from an mx-5 which is still in the shed and been driving a falcon work car (vomit) in between love the GTI's mad puppy dog attitude towards doing anything and everything after a long hard day at work a quick squirt in the GTI with its upchange farts makes it all okay.

All the fun and games of the mx-5 but without the threat of getting wet, sunburned or needing to wear kidney belts on rough roads

                  Where do I start?

                  1. Looks classy and understated, no way would anyone pick this wolf in sheeps clothing
                  2. The TFSI engine and DSG transmission work seamlessly, just wants to keep revvvvving.... Sounds good too
                  3. HUGE boot, take that Falcodores!
4: Rear parking sensors, have saved me countless of times, bar one
5: That solid thud when you close the door
                  6. The stock stereo goes HARD and LOUD, perfect for my doof doof
                  7. The look on a friend's face when I floor the accelerator
                  8. The fact it comes with a bottle opener
                  9. Did I mention the fact it goes like a Jet? (pun intended)

                  10. THE FACT THAT IT IS MINE!

Everytime I leave my car I make sure it's locked by pulling on both front and rear door handles and more often than not, turn around to have a quick admiring glance at my car
The way it looks in the right light is amazing... ah, LOVE IT

Just picked up my 08 MkV GTI last night during pouring rain here in Brissy! Black Magic with leather and sunroof. Coming from a suzuki swift it is a very nice upgrade indeed! Felt that DSG actually works fairly well like a conventional auto box, haven't experienced too much rolling back on hill start and other bad things i've read on the forum, and in D it up changes so eagerly like fuel price is 5 bucks a litre! got to top gear even before 60k/h, very nice in S it just growls all the way with full fury to redline, sweet. No doubt will gain more appreciation for it as days go by. Can't wait for the weather to clear out and go for a dart around Mt Glorious

                    tiny complaints so far:
                    * rain sensing wiping seems to have a mind of its own sometimes
                    * haven't been able to adjust to a perfectly comfy sitting position yet. Everyone is raving about the Golf's seats, maybe just need a bit more time to adjust and getting used to!
                    * in D it's super economical, maybe a bit too much for my liking

Probably picking bones too much here, but it's awesome otherwise

                    • Hi rich8rd

Congrats on new car, I have the same car with same options. I too had to get used to seats, probably as I was used to poor quality seats, but now I love them and find that they are very comfy and supportive. Just be careful entering and exiting not to crush the side bolster. I have seen some GTIs that have suffered in this area due to lack of care getting in and out.

Wipers can be a PITA as can the auto headlights. Are you considering mods, if so, what?

                      Have fun

                      • Hi brimway, yeah thanks for the advice, i noticed the bolter is already bit soft from previous 2 owners, and i tend to sit on it when exiting! must not do that anymore. not thinking of any mods yet, was drooling over an RNS510 and ipod connectivity as there is no jack for my ipods, but the 1000 bucks RNS510 kit might not get the missus approval seeing i just sort of emptied my account getting the car Is your modded/chipped?

                        • APR ecu flash, apr exhaust and 18x8s. There are plenty of posts here bagging one tune over another, but at the end of the day, it is what you are happy with. I am very happy with the APR result. Have RNS510 on order, gotta stop spending. If your seat bolster is bad, give a warranty claim a go, i've heard of others having success.

                            foreclosures

The meaning for mortgage lenders is this: if consumers start defaulting on mortgages, investors who buy mortgages in the secondary market through loan-backed bonds will lose their appetite for risky loans.
think easy credit conditions and a housing boom may have led lower-income consumers to bite off more than they can chew; thus the sudden jump of homes in foreclosure.
                            suitable properties successfully.
REO is real estate owned property. This means the bank or other lending institution owns the property due to default on the loan. Once the property gets to this stage, you will need a professional
IF your looking for a home under the market value then the time to buy is now, and this is the site to help you get what you need without all the fees.

Was driving next to a white GTI along Fullarton Rd this afternoon with Euro plates (letters spelled SEAD). Exhaust sounded awesome but looked stock. Would love to know what had been done to it!!!
