Mechatronics unit DEAD!
No mechatronic units available for 7DSG at the moment (needs to match chassis build number apparently).
VW are trying to source a replacement gearbox, quicker and easier solution I am told.

YET ANOTHER UPDATE!!

Another phone call late this avo....... it appears the decision is to now replace the mechatronics unit only now as a matching unit is available........ but on back order..

Good outcome.
And presume a loaner car to go with that happiness.
Even if DSG/mechatronix is included in extended warranty,
the next one will be manual.

Loaner car!!!! Yeah right!! got the same excuse as last time..... "they're all fully booked up for the next month"...... could try for a rental but not worth the hassle..... just using one of the company cars at the moment.

This thread (and many others before) has now firmly made up my mind never to get a VW DSG equipped car ......

Failure under warranty = mega inconvenience (and it looks like its almost a given to happen)

Failure outside warranty = mega $$$$

Sharkie, at the end of the day it's not the gearbox that's the issue it's the mechatronics unit...... I read an article from some guy in the US who stripped a 7DSG down for testing, his findings were that the strength of the gear train it's self is on a par with the 6 speed DSG........ as the 7DSG's become more and more common I would hope the mechatronic units would not only have this issue ironed out but for those who are worried for some more freely available as swap out units.... no doubt they will become cheaper as time goes on..... but yes at the moment annoying and costly for out of warranty repairs.... I'm just happy it's a warranty fix in my case!!

It is of course your prerogative to make such a choice but saying it is almost a given to happen is a complete overstatement.

You know how it works, a happy customer will tell one person, an unhappy customer will tell hundreds if not thousands. On this forum we have a minute percentage of the population and and not a representative sample. I would bet that for every DSG failure, there are thousands or tens of thousands that do not experience failure. I'm on my second DSG equpped car with no issues at all and would buy another one tomorrow but you don't see me or any of the others that share my experience creating threads to that effect, it's like newspapers, they only report the bad news stories because it sells papers.

This reminds me of the story of Chicken Little, an acorn fell from a tree and landed on his head so he ran around telling everyone the sky was falling. Sorry Chicken Little, no matter how bad a picture you wish to paint, the sky is not falling.

With all the recent 118 TSI,and DSG problems,I am so releived that I chose a new Accord Euro to replace my much loved Jetta 2.0 FSI over a new Jetta 118 TSI with DSG.
I have had my new c ar for 6 days,have done 600 kilometers in it,and it is an absorlute pleasure.
Maybee VW can go to Honda to learn a few things...
This car feels solid and absorlutely bullet proof,hope it continues to impress so much.

Mechatronics unit should arrive today........ from the point of failure to part arriving, 2 weeks...... needs to be fitted yet....... waiting waiting......

It may be hard to believe, but I travel in far wider circles than just this forum ....

And out of 9 friends/colleagues/acquitances that I know of with DSG equipped VWs of some kind .... 7!!! .... have had DSG issues of some kind .... this paints a picture far worse than what you are .... ..... and none of those 7 are on this forum .....

The latest 1, a 2008 Jetta 2.0T as recent as 2 weeks ago .... has led me to cancel a new DSG Multivan order ....

It is in fact far worse than what is widely acknowledged ..... you, i suspect are just lucky and I hope it stays like it for your sake.

And BTW .... out of everybody I know with VWs, only a handful have had no real quality issues .... even my ex-boss who I talked into a 118TSI DSG Sportspack Golf late in 2009 have had a number of issues .... including crashing DSG shifts, Climate Control not working, windows not working etc etc etc ... needless to say not many people I know are still taking my advice and considering VWs for their next cars .....

It actually breaks my heart, ....the current VW quality or lack thereof .... as I'm on my 7th VW at the moment ... and apart from a 2nd hand Multivan (in a manual) ... not likely to get another ....

I have been the biggest fan in the world by far...but after 4 Jettas,2 in South Africa,1 in America,and 1 here,I deceided that as the Jetta 6 is not out,I would change brands this time,as did not feel like dealing with arrogant VW deallerships when dealing with the usual VW irritations,being rattles,squeeks,and interior vibrations.

But guess what ?

My 13 day old Accord Euro is going in tomorrow to have a little rattle in the left front door seen to.

I am curious to see how Hondas service and repair centres compare to VWs...

In my experience, minor rattles and squeaks are a fact of life in cars that don't cost huge money. And even in many that do.

I've just sold my 05 Euro; it was a fantastic car and my third great Honda, but it wasn't perfect - the Euros do suffer from interior rattles, and there are annoying mechanical issues that affect a significant number of CL9s also. The CU2 (your model) is no different.

Here in SA, I tried four Honda dealerships before I found one with what I consider to be good customer service. Shades of your VW experience?

I can't think of any part of Honda I would want to taint a VW with.

Really they're a bland, boring car with high revving powerplants favoured by riceboys because of the F1 connection. The cater for generation Y with words like "i-VTEC", bluetooth modules that are fitted on the A pillar and not fully integrated, modules are not shared across different models and the list goes on.

They don't even have have electronic throttles (except in the Civic Type R and Accord Euro) and still use outdated mechanical linkages. And five speed automatic gearboxes are nothing to get excited over even if they do have paddles on some steering wheels.

Mav, I agree, before deciding on a Jetta I drove a honda, camry and a Mazda 6....... nothing compared to the Jetta... yeah I've had an issue or two but what manufacturer doesn't.
I do have a soft spot for the Maz 3 MPS though......
