  • DSG lost all drive!!

Hi Guys, looks like another Mechatronics unit has bitten the dust!!! was in the city today, at set of lights, DSG was in drive, lights green, right foot down a bit, plenty of revs but no drive!! tried manual mode, nothing!! tried reverse, nothing!!...
Plenty of annoyed drivers behind me though.... so the hazard lights went on and managed to push it into a carpark closeby...... I tell ya f*ckin frustrating!! second tow in 3 months!! firstone was limp mode because of a crook sparkplug!
Any way looks I'll be without my baby for some time now!

          Terrible luck, Creniac!

What happens while you are without your car? Is there a loan car or a VWA contribution to one?
I'd think that this is the kind of story VWA would want to keep away from the pages of the AU newspaper duopoly. Surely. VW reliability gets enough of a negative press from those motoring section scribes.
Bizi's Jetta TDI: Blue Graphite w. factory leather & tint, plus + Enkei Racing NT03+M + Yokohama S Drive 18s, Koni FSD, Neuspeed coils, GTI RSB + brakes, InPro mirrors, VW navi, Modshack. Come for a drive through the twisties on Saturdaze.

Bizi, I have already sent an email to VWA..... as you could imagine not a very nice one either!! anyway as for a loan car, not sure yet... they receive the car tomorrow.... last time I received a mountain of excuses why one wasn't available but this time I hope to get one (email to VWA might help this).
It was towed only 3 months ago and for this to now happen I am f****** p*ssed off!! especially when I had the family and all the shopping in the boot too!
How does the Mazda MPS go???

I will keep you posted with the outcome.

              thats unlucky.
my Brothers Jetta (08 TFSI) DSG mechatronic unit is finally being replaced after going back and forth to the dealer many times.
bastards wasted our time every time and now realise the problem.
bloody VW service dept being lazy..........

The dealer would be following the procedure for diagnosis they have to follow for every car if they want to get warranty approved/paid for. What possible reason would they have to keep doing work where they don't get paid rather than performing warranty work for which they do get paid?

If the customer takes the car in with a vague "gearbox is clunky" and doesn't show them it playing up in conditions they can replicate or just goes in and wants a mechatronics replacement because the people on the internet said that was the problem you can't expect them to replace the unit on the spot without thoroughly diagnosing the problem.

the car went back to the dealer 4 times. 2 times over night and 2 times we actually took them for a test drive and it wastn't hard to replicate the problem cos it was doing it all the time. and i never mentioned anything about the porblem being mentioned on the internet cos i wasn't there. i just told my brother to tell them what was happeing when he drove the car.
so i think i can say that the service dept are being a bit lazy and probably didn't really want to do the work under warranty.
its not like we should be taking days off work to get a car looked at when there is a problem.

everytime the car came to a complete stop as in a set of traffic lights, when he takes his foot of the brakes to eithere let the car roll forward of to take off, it would hesitate then jerk forward quite violently then thump into gear. sometimes it would also have no drive for a couple of secs before taking off even tho the accelerator was being pressed. quite dnagerous if you're turning out onto the street and there is traffic coming towards you.

Think about what you wrote there for a second and take into account that Volkswagen don't pay for the dealer being lazy and they only pay for valid warranty work and diagnostics and now repeat it again to see if it makes sense. You're claiming that the dealer prefers to stuff around and look at customers cars and find no faults (and as such not get paid by Volkswagen for their time) rather than putting in warranty claims with the Volkswagen and being paid for their time.

Also take into account that the Mechatronics replacement is a $4000 exercise and Volkswagen have procedures that have to be followed or the replacement will not be approved. This process requires the dealer to reset the DSG gearbox on the first visit, they may require this process to be performed again on the second visit and each time the car has to go back to be verified. On the second or third visit back they will get a mechatronics ordered and fitted on the third or fourth visit.

If you don't like the way it works take it up with Volkswagen.

its not like we should be taking days off work to get a car looked at when there is a problem.
Would you like Volkswagen to have a mobile service centre that visits you? Who said you have to take a day off to drop the car in before work? Plenty of people seem to manage to get their car in for a service or repair and still manage to make it to work. Volkswagen never guaranteed the car would not have any faults and there is no manufacturer that does or can guarantee this, every car has problems and the more complexity you add to a car the more complex it can be to diagnose and fault find.

I too am currently being stuffed around by some dealerships bro. The last thing they would want to do is approve a warranty claim as when they do so the whole case is reviewed under a microscope, so they will try all they can to avoid it.

At least one of the guys (VW mechanic) I am dealing with is telling me how hard VW make it for the service department to win the approval for a warranty claim.

that was the exact point i was trying to make.

i understand what you are saying Mave, but why should they drag it on so much?
