  • GTI 5: Turbo - Intercooler Pipe Internals.

    Hi guys,

can anyone explain what the gold thing attached to this pipe at the top end (end that would attach to turbo) is?

looks like a thermostat of some sort... that sits inside the pipe????

can we remove this for better air flow?

I don't know the GTI turbo exactly, but that looks like it could be the actual turbo body housing and the inlet compressor "faceplate"?

That is actually a noise suppressor or "muffler" found mainly in the K03 variants.

Oettinger (and some other manufacturers) have a higher flowing replacement.

From what I understand, it does not make any direct HP, but does in crease torque through the rev range!

There is more flow, but not huge gains.

Have to balance it out on cost vs performance.

The Oettinger part is $400 (includes hose) probably good if you already have:

            Software
            Exhaust
            Fuel pump
            Intercooler
            Intake

then I would do this if you still have the K03!
