Hmmm.. I do have the original bolt which could be a cause but after thinking about this I may just go back to the original bush as it doesn't quiete make much sense to replace one bush with a firmer compound whilst the engine mount bushes remain standard. You would think that the majority of the engine movement force would then be more apparently directed to the replaced bush which has less movement than the others.

My sound stays even when the engine is warm. Maybe the sound goes once yours is warm due to the metals/alloys involved expanding due to heat soak causing a tighter bond which may then delete the movement which is causing the sound?

In all honesty, I think the mount insert has been fantastic (apart from the noise). Gear changes are smoother and crisper, and axle tramp has effectively been illiminated.. which is exactly what it was designed for. I'm going to give new bolts a go (considering they are only like $5 each and there are 3 of them) and see how things go from there. If all else fails, I might just get the whole new dogbone and engine mount.

As for the metals and alloys expanding, it doesnt get THAT hot under there. After a decent drive, I jacked the car up, checked the bolts and I was able to touch it with my hand.

Thinking of getting rid of car maybe??
Has anyone else had this problem with a GTI DSG and or manual?

I took the car to my mechanic, got him to check it out.. aparently when I put the mount in myself, i ruined the the screw thread of the subframe. I now have to take it back to him so they can remove the subframe, re-thread it and put it back on.. another couple hundred dollars down the drain.

Although, I noticed when he took out the bolt that I currently have in there, and screwed it back up so I can leave, the noise has disappeared. Gonna take it for another spin today and see how we go.

Yeah the TAI bolt.. first time I tried putting it in, i really forced it (idiocy - ruined the threat in the subframe).. then eventually went in! I thought sweet!.. but then the noises. However, I'm happy to announce though, the noise has virtually disappeared without having to re-threat the subframe. Now only when I put it in reverse, the car sounds like a ducati with a whole heap clanging together LOL. I'm just gonna wait til I get it all fixed.. hopefully becomes like new again.

Makes sense to me as this is the only part of my sub frame that 'someone' has fuked around with (TAI bush). I just hate how everyone plays dumb (workshops) claiming no responsibility. BUT....... the sub frame is an obvious flaw with these cars and I have a verrrrrrry handy link here boys which show that this is an issue even when the TAI bolt has not been stuffed around with.

If you're tired of your clunking subframe............

Thats a good link.. however its none of the bolts pictures that I am talking about... its the big bolt next to the two red circled bolts. Those 2 red circled bolts should probably be changed too.. just to keep everything uniform. Big heavy duty bolt was ordered today by my mechanic.. hope all goes well.

Yeah I am clear with which one you are referring too... just raised my eyebrows when I found this link. Mine may be either? Its just going to be VW dealership vs my Tuner who fitted a bushing for me, be F'd if I am paying for such an issue!

I just wonder how common this problem is?

A couple days ago my car Mk5 TDI Edition starting making a dragging sound, and a knock. Its only when going over rough roads it knocks, rough as in surface texture not deviation. The dragging is at low speed, like the calipers are rubbing on the rotor, or something else is rubbing underneath, more promenant during steering. I am going to jack it up tonight and check a few things out.

Sounds unrelated to our issue bro? Get a few opinions if you can as some mechanics dont want a bar of it.

Yeah it is but didnt warrant a new thread. They checked it out said it was a rock stuck in the caliper assembly jumping about, which after extra investigating is what it sounded like when i jacked it up, but didnt make sense to happen.
