  • Front end creeeeck sound?? GTI 18K on clock

Hmmmm not sure what this could be but my GTI has just started to make a kind of "click" or "creeeck" sound when the front end is under load. By under load I mean hard braking, hard acceleration or cornering.
I have noticed that the opposite dirrection of yawing will cause this sound from the last direction it was last heard. For example, I brake hard.... I hear the sound.... I then accelerate a few times before the sound can occur again under hard braking.
The sound is one sudden sound which does not carry on, just a sudden click type sound which resonates (slightly) through the chassis. You know when you can hear something and you know it was caused by a part which is firmly part of the structure of the car rather than say a seperate item? Well thats what I gather from THIS mystery sound.
I thought it could be front end sway bar related? May be no issue but it is not good to hear a chassis flex kind of sound when the car is so new.
Any idea's??? Its a bit of a noggin scratcher!

I too have experienced the same symptoms but to a greater scale....

It’s the engine/transmission mount..... It’s loose, take it to the dealer and they will tighten it for you under warranty.....

I’m pretty cheesed off because I went several times to the dealer to tighten the engine mount..... Its good for one week then the noise comes back after a few drives...
I’m pushing to have the engine/transmission mount replaced under warranty because the noise is pretty embarrassing when driving VW admires, family or friends, then when you turn into a corner "a big crack/clonks" is heard.....

Personally I believe it only happens with the GTI's that have DSG boxes..... As the extra weight/load from the DSG puts a bit more strain on the engine mount thus creating movement and that horrible clicking/banging noise....

Jesus!!! That is not what i wanted to hear?! There must be a solution for this but then i guess we would be in the hands of the adftermarket and would lose factory warranty royalties (term used losely)
Do you have the eurethane centre engine mount by any chance or still the standard rubber one?

I've had a similar problem on my Pirelli which I am waiting to get fixed. Dealer told me it was some slight movement in the subframe and they have ordered me a new subframe bolt and washer. I'll let you know if it fixes the problem. I was a bit concerned at the beginning but it looks like a few cars have this issue.

FIR-26T - So it was you who did the 13.9 @ WSID. One of my mates spoke to you that night and he rang me to tell me the times you pulled. Well done.

Most of the front-end creaks and clicks we've found have been relating to the strut top bearings and caliper slides. However, I will be paying close attention to engine and transmission mounts in future.

everything on my car is stock, but if I have to fork out the extra pennies to fix the problem n go aftermarket, then I guess I'll ask VW to cover it....
If we complain to VW as a group they will have to action our concerns....

I too hear the caliper Creaks n clicks but as long as the car breaks it's all good.... I guess.... Don't see how the service dealer can diagnose this issue....

Thanks to everone with their input n feedback in relation to the topic.... Will address the other concerns with VW Service department when I take it in to get my A/C fixed (part on back order)....

And I was lead to belive that VW cars a bullet proof but I guess like any car it has it's own gremlins....

YES that was me thanks. The Pirelli needs an LSD, as the front left wheel spins like hell on take off...

Its just a little disappointing for myself when I purchase my first near new car and this problem shows up with only 18000 k's on the clock

I find myself driving like a bit of a bitch now as I am a little paranoid, oh well... let me know how you go with the service department and I will see if I can find any more cases of this issue. I am sure there can be an easy fix developed.

              Cheers

Ps: 13.9 is awesome!..... A mate also had wheel spin issues consistently with one side of the front wheels at the drag strip which was fixed by using different tire pressures from left to right, sounds a bit dodgy but it leveled out the traction

I had this problem with my Jetta. It made the creeking sound at very slow speed (eg. reversing into drive way). I think it ended up being suspension/steering related replaced under warranty.

thats the biggest thing we've found too... t5's are pretty common for it too.. we just pull the strut out. take the strut bearing plate out and inspect for any damage.. 9 times out of 10 it just needs to be regreased.. other times they need a new bearing

I heard a friend with the same problem and VW advised him about one of the engine supports that got lose!, true?, so when you speed up or break a bit hard you'll hear the "cleck" sound,

                        Good luck man!

                          Sounds like the same problem
Brake hard...."click" accelerate "click" turn hard "click"

I plan to attend a track day at Sandown on the 3rd of April... if that doesn't fix the problem I dont know what will?

                            I hate it......

I must say the sound has disappeared but once in a while it comes back again.... Tracking the car will definitely fix it HEHEHHE

My local VW service dealer suggested, when and if the noise comes back to straight away contact them, take them for a drive so they can hear (witness) the problem then they will get on VW Australia’s back in relation to warranty repair...

Sounds like its a common problem amongst the GTI's.... RECALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very interesing as my TDI has a creaking suspension related noise from the passenger rear, and it sure sounds "higher" than the suspension itself, and a strut top would be my best guess. Need to investigate!
