You may want to tell them - If you're involved in an accident and they find those wheels on it then that will be the perfect excuse to reject any insurance claim you make - you may as well not have any insurance.2007 Black Magic VW Golf GT TDi, Latte Leather, Sunroof, Bluefin Superchip, 18" Detroits, APR lower torque arm insert, APR Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake system, GTi sideskirts & front lip, R32 Rear Bar, GTi Steering wheel, RNS-510,Infinity BassLink Subwoofer, stubby antenna, R8 Oil Cap, Golf R front calipers, slotted front rotors, ceramic brake pads, LITEC LED tail-lights, Dension Gateway Five, Rear Emblem Reverse Camera, H&R Ultralow coil-overs, Badge-less front grille

Poyta, I would contact your insurance company and tell them that according to the manufactures specifications you can get wheels that are 18 x 8.0 so there should be no problem at all with the wheels you want to get.Originally posted by poyta View PostI just contacted my insurance company ( Allianz ) about the increase in wheel size and they wont insure my car with those wheels. They have no issue with the increase to 19" but they claim that they go off a specifications sheet that says the maximum width allowed on a Golf is 7.5" so I can't even get the 18's because they're 8.0" wide. How do all you guys get away with such large wheels and getting insurance?
I also checked the Vic Roads website and according to their modifications you are able to go a certain diameter wider and bigger. Check this threat as it discuss in detail what you can do in terms of wheels to your car.
I'm fitting 18 x 8.5 as soon as my car is delvieredLast edited by oileoi; 26-11-2009, 03:34 PM.

I did just this with Alliance..
They were not interested. They had their own guidelines for insurance you must meet.
Its their call and perogative not yours.. The legalities do not matter a bit.
I had to change insurers!
Prev 2008 R32 3 door DSG.
Prev 2010 S3 Sportback Stronic.
Now Lexus IS350 F Sport

Looks like I'm going to have to change insurers also which is a pity because Allianz is offering me a fantastic price that no one can come even close too.Originally posted by bazzle View PostRead my Lips.

I think the standard TDI came with 15's but mines a GT and comes standard with 17x7's. Regardless there doesn't seem to any general rules about what you can do and what you can't. Each individual company seems to have its own set of policies and rules and its up to you to ask them. Allianz says I can go to 24" for wheel height for all they care but I can't go over 7.5" width which means if I optioned for the dealers 18's they wouldn't insure me - pretty stupid really.Originally posted by G-rig View PostI thought you can usually go up 2 sizes/inches without worring about anything..
However did the TDI comew with 16"s or 17"?2007 Black Magic VW Golf GT TDi, Latte Leather, Sunroof, Bluefin Superchip, 18" Detroits, APR lower torque arm insert, APR Carbon Fibre Cold Air Intake system, GTi sideskirts & front lip, R32 Rear Bar, GTi Steering wheel, RNS-510,Infinity BassLink Subwoofer, stubby antenna, R8 Oil Cap, Golf R front calipers, slotted front rotors, ceramic brake pads, LITEC LED tail-lights, Dension Gateway Five, Rear Emblem Reverse Camera, H&R Ultralow coil-overs, Badge-less front grille
