Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

True. And shipping costs can vary dramatically, so it's worth doing your homework.
As an example I was quoted US$616.19 to ship a 50 lb carton of coilovers from one company, US$213.09 from another company

You'd leave the rubber on the old rims and sell them as a complete set.

New rubber can be picked up from tirerack at a 50% saving from local prices AFTER shipping.

And why buy cheap rubbish rims with cheap rubbish tyres from a place like tempe tyres when for an extra 20-30% you can import quality wheels and quality tyres.
Maverick have you got any links to where I can get better quality wheels imported ? And what should I look for to determine that they are better.

      Thanks

Go with a well known brand from tirerack. The dollar is great and if you import two at a time you avoid the fees on our end, also their tyres are a great price.

Also VMR (sponsor on golfmkv) give good shipping prices for their RS4 reps which are widely used. Well made and they also do black onyx which on a candy white and some other colours looks great. From memory the black or silver rims are around USD$650 and USD$750 for the black onyx. And USD$300 shipping. They'll fix the invoice as well <cough> <cough>.

As for OEM you can pick them up for ~$1000 for the R32 rims (not many sold new now so less on the market that are almost new) and the GTI rims for a bit less. As soon as they're marked you can get a substantial discount.

There have been members on here selling "genuine" rims which have later turned up to be cheap rubbish from tempe tyres so beware anyone flogging "genuine" or "quality" rims that have Kuhmo rubber (this is the package that Tempe sell). I almost paid a premium for some RS4 rubbish that didn't look as good as the VMR ones.

Same problem on ebay, you see "genuine" rims and they're cheap knockoffs, you can pick them apart if they post decent photos because the finish isn't as good and the shape is often slightly wrong.

Yeah they do look awsome. I've always been cautious of replica wheels tho-structurally speaking. Did i hear right are you selling your R32 geralis32?

Finally! I've been after pics of 19" Omanyts on an R32 for ages! Looks the ducks nutz to me. I do notice one thing though, doesn't seem to have the machined lip like the genuine 18"? Still looks hot. I'm tempted to go get em, but I'll wait till my SP Sport Maxx's are worn, only got 6000km on them so far haha.
Anyone got advice on where I should be researching on how to get the right 'tuck' and what exactly it is. I basically want my R32 suspension lowered about 15mm and the wheels to sit out a bit more just at the lip of the fender and for the tyres to have that 'tight wrapped' around the rim look. Any help?

Hey yeah i got these wheels from mswt my dad has been using them for years, n just thought it was time for some fresh new shoes for my baby.
i will say the ride has not changed at all that i have noticed, the only thing is like tram tracks and bad roads (not speedbumps) have made the ride a little stiffer
