I have a Mk4 golf (I know, wrong section!) but this thread is pretty interesting and my golf does a little trick too.
When adjusting the side mirrors, when the knob is turned to the driver's side and adjusted, the passenger side automatically adjusts in time with it! Apparently, quite a few VWs do this little trick, fwas first told about it with an older model passat

When i first got my mk4 i thought that the mirrors were broken in some way because of this feature haha...turns out u just have to adjust the passenger side last!Originally posted by gavs View PostI have a Mk4 golf (I know, wrong section!) but this thread is pretty interesting and my golf does a little trick too.

If you activate the 'secret' diagnostic menu in an RNS510 you can see speed and even cornering loads etcOriginally posted by bwen View PostSort of on topic, when doing the digital speedo reading on the climate control lcd screen, is there a way of doing this and have the air con not turned on?
Activating the menu depends on which version of firmware you run - some can do it just by holding setup for > 15 seconds, others need a VCDS edit / firmware correction.

Oh, are you referring to the climatronic screens maca? gmk2 mentioned this kind of data can be shown on the RNS510 secret menu? Is it possible?2009 R32 - Reflex silver- DSG, Sunroof, RNS-510, Kufatec Bluetooth, Flapper mod

Yep, lots of info you can get - the RNS510 has GPS data, gyro data and CANBUS data from the rest of the car so quite a few different 'diagnostic' readouts you can see - let alone all the other stuff (radio reception etc etc). Handy to determine the 'accuracy' of your speedo - set cruise control and flip menu's to see the difference between GPS and reported speed.Originally posted by silver32 View PostOh, are you referring to the climatronic screens maca? gmk2 mentioned this kind of data can be shown on the RNS510 secret menu? What I really need to find out is if the Aus maps have 'voice' information in them.. voice activation may just be a microphone install away (on the new firmware...).Gmk2

I actually went to the basement to check this out coz I thought you guys were talking about the door release handlesOriginally posted by neil View PostThis is not actually hidden trick post,
But its taken me almost two years to realise that
the inside front door grab handles on my Jetta are both different.
Am I the only one not to notice this for so long?
Are the golf handles different to each other as well?
. Me thinks it's to accomodate for the window/mirror switches. The Mk4's with electric windows have the same thing.
IIRC there are no Mk5s in the world that have manual front windows, so I guess they'd be all the same.2002 Volkswagen Bora V5 - 2007 Mazda 3 GT - 1998 Ford Contour Sport - 2010 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0T - 2013 Volkswagen Passat 130TDI - 2015 Ford Escape 1.5 - 2016 Subaru WRX - 2018 Volkswagen Golf R Wolfsburg Wagon

Here is another one I just found out, and I am not too sure why all car makers (at least in the cars I have driven don't have this).
I found this one out at the car wash, decided to try out the touch free automatic car wash system in Balwyn (because I felt lazy).
Idling, it's difficult to hear my Golf running and thinking it was off I turned the ignition key, when I realised it was still idling and I only could turn the key a little (one click) I realised oh sh*t and was expecting the loud CRUNCH of the starter motor kicking in on an engine that was still running, instead, I heard nothing! The starter was disabled when the engine was on.
Thank the lord for German engineering and design! what else did they think of??2008 Golf GTi Mk5, Tornado Red, Roof, Leather and iPod connector
