Has anyone had these tyres long enough to know how many kms they'll last?

I put the original Eagle F1s on my previous car and I had them on for 60,000kms until i sold it (the car) and they still had a decent amount of tread left, whereas the Bridgestone RE010 (it came with my old car) only lasted 30,000kms after which they were basically slicks.

Anyway, I really liked the Eagle F1s, good grip in wet & dry, so i was thinking of getting the F1 assyms when the current set on the Golf (the ones that came with the car) runs out.

    Any thoughts?

Itd be hard to find a decent pair made from Germany, Goodyear made a - lets say a bad decision, and chose to move their factory to asia, and I dont mean Japan.

If you want a performance tyre it will come with a tradeoff and that's generally the life of the tyre (sometimes also noise and comfort). As long as I get more than 15,000kms out of my F1's I'll be happy with that because my main focus is safety. Tyres also go off with age, once a tyre is ~8 months old it's lost something like 20% of it's performance and it keeps going downhill from there so you don't want tyres that are 3-4 years old on your car (actually I don't you to have tyres that are 3-4 years old on your car and to be driving behind me!).

The life is influenced a lot as well by how you care for the tyres (rotation, balancing, wheel alignment and pressures), the type of roads you drive on, how you drive, the type of car and other factors so it's not something that you can really compare to other drivers.

Even though the treadwear indicator could be a bit iffy (see post above from Brad) it's a good place to start and also take a look at tirerack but remember they get tyres for different conditions (like winter tyre variants).

Don't they still have factories all around the world, the one in China has been there for ages, they have one in Germany and so on?

There shouldn't be any difference between the same tyre made in different factories but it seems that there can be, I refuse to spend $500 on a tyre made in China so will check the next batch carefully and stipulate I want Germany made.

Not too sure, but i was in the market for a set, but all i could find were sets made in China or Taiwan.

Yes but of course it depends on the road surface etc etc.

They do make a squealing noise at times I've found

Much quieter than the RE050A's and the CSC2's I had on my GTI.

                    I have goodyear eagle F1's.
And I recommend them. Can't say much about wear, as they came with my R32. But grip is confidence inspiring and feel is great too.

I have driven on a few sets of tyres before, but these are the best so far. It is still not perfect, because I haven't been driving different sets of tyres back to back on the same car. But i am confident in these tyres.

in regards to noise, they were noisy, but turns out that the tyres were lumpy. And I can account that to the fact that the car is too low and there is too much camber in the rear, and shock settings aren't adjustable as well.

Didn't your R32 come with the original F1's though? The Asymmetrics haven't been out longer than a couple of years.

The new F1 Asymmetricals are reportedly a lot better than the old ones.

As G-Rig stated... Very different tyre from all reports.
