This may sound a bit odd but I personally find that my driving deteriorates when I drive any form of automatic. Driving a manual keeps me more involved and alert as a driver, when I drive an auto I tend to get mentally lazy and my driving suffers as a result.

I test drove the DSG and loved it but chose the manual for the above reasons which probably shows how personal the choice is.

All my previous cars were manuals.

But, living in Sydney with all traffic jams auto is maybe better choice.

If i could afford i would have both manual car (for fun) and auto (for daily commuting).
I found DSG to be best compromise and i'm more than happy with my choice.

Personally I though DSG was a fantastic auto and If I was forced to have an auto that would be my choice but I would always choose a manual (and did ) simply because I love changing gears on H pattern, love using the clutch, love that satisfied feeling when you get that takeoff just perfect with the right amount of slip or matching the revs perfect with throttle blips on downshifts. You just feel more like you're part of the car and actually driving it.

Something to consider would be perhaps the replacement cost of a DSG if it ever went BUNG! I doubt it would be cheap.

I second the mighty Poyta, if you intend keeping the car beyond the typical couple of years, rebuild or repair costs on a DSG could be scary. That's the main reason I didn't tick that box on the order form.

If you're in peak hour traffic daily, you'd be smart to go the DSG.
