Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

You know the Pirelli comes with 230hp out of the box, right?

All the GT Tunes I've seen (diesel or petrol) bump the 170hp cars to around 200hp (give or take a few).
Which is standard GTI territory (and pretty amazing really), but you'd need to double those gains to hit the stock Pirelli output.

Please break down your 2k a bit more - tell us what you'd spend to make the GT faster than a Pirelli.

The depreciation is working in my favour (it's a business car), so that wasn't a negative consideration in my swapover from a GT TSI to a GTI Pirelli.

As i said in a previous post, i not smoking anything, i know 200- 210Hp is possible for not a lot of money. 230 would need to spend a bit more, but for me $2k to get witin 25HP of a pirelli with bucket loads more torque is not a bad thing. that extra 25 HP is worth $13k.

I am in a position to put my cars thru as a business as well, but ive been lazy with my accounting, which i am hoping to clear up next week when i do my tax return.

Even when you chip a GT TDi it isn't as quick as a GTI and the GT TDi suffers from a slower revving engine and exhaust constraints thanks to the DPF. And you get a lot more than an extra 25 hp for your money with the Pirelli.

Retail price of the GT TDI was around $38000. Retail price of the GTI Pirelli was around $49000.

That's ~$11k difference not taking into account the factory pdc on the Pirelli.

So the real cost to is $4k which is $250 per month.

Im not putting down the Pirelli

Is it a great car ? Yes
                  Do I want one? Yes
Is it worth $15k to me to upgrade from the GT? No
Is it worth $10k to upgrade from the GT? Possibly
Is it worth spending $2k to make the GT faster? Probably

That is where i am at with it all.

Im not intending to get into a technical argument about the pro's and cons of GT TDI vs Pirelli, it was merely a comment that i can come someway to getting closer to the performance of a GTI or Pirelli with what i have already relatively easily and for $2k, the comment was made without doing any research of "Actual" figures as i have not until now even considered chipping the car.

This has gone off topic now, so just to get back on topic, I am now pretty sure that the quote i got yesterday was a mistake on the part of the salesman, as it does seem like a very very good price on the car. I do have it in writing though, but as above i cant justify it right now so i am merely trying to feed the urge for a change and more power until i can justify a change.

The real cost to me is the difference between what i get for my car and what i pay for the new one.

If i want to drive out the door in a Pirelli it is going to cost the $15k i have to hand over no matter what way it is buttered. I dont do finance so cpm not relevant.

According to www.redbook.com.au - trade in price on a low km MY08 GT TDi is $26,200. Add $15000 to that and you've got $41500. $41500 for a Pirelli is a hell of a deal anyway you look at it.

It may be a Great deal on the Pirelli, but the changeover is more than i am prepared to pay at the moment. At the end of the day i still have a great car to drive around in and that is what counts.

I have about $9-10k in mind to either change either the car or the bike. i can change my Bike to a new 09 R1 for around that money. Its got about the Same HP as the GT but 0-100 is under 3 secs. And lets face it the Car potters around the city at 60-80 km/h most of the time, the bike gets cut loose in the hills on a fairly regular basis.

aha! that's a totally different proposition with two less wheels.
I think you've got to do what will make you happy, and I know which one it is more likely to be.

I have just bought a 2009 ZX10R for 15K rideaway with Pipe, fender eliminator, pickup spools, all included. I have had 6 R1's in a row and thought that at the price for a new 10 compared to the R1 I''ll save 5K.The difference isn't a great as you may think, certainly not 5k's worth.

Good luck with whatever you get.
