    Hey Guys

I have been using AAMi on our family cars for the last 5yrs. So took out the Jetta with them last year and my premium was 660. After i hit a dog i had to have the front end repaired. Excess was my account as they couldnt trace the owners of the dog, even though witnesses said i wasn't at fault. They assured me it wouldnt affect my no claim bonus etc. However whilst the car was being repaired my bottle opener was stolen and AAMI didnt want to know about it. So when this years renewel rocked up not only was it an increase of $110- (up to 770) but i didnt want to use them again due to there attitude over my bottle opener.

So i shopped around again, most seemed to want around 1000 due to me only being 26 and having a turbo petrol, even though im a rating 1 (once upon time if you were over 25 you were ok). In the end my leasing company hooked me up with CGU for 825. Great policy incl new car repacement for another 2yrs, hire car, free windscreen repair and 1 at fault claim a year without affecting my no claim bonus.

Couldnt be happier to ditch AAMI

NRMA took about $40 off when I nominated my wife as 2nd driver rather than if I was the only nominated driver. I was insulted until I thought of the $40 saving.
      Hey mate,
My car got written off in the recent floods. After saying they'll organise a tow they left it sitting there for 8 days and only towed it after I made the 6th phone call.

Other people had their cars towed, assessed and paid out in this time.

Then they offered my 29k for a 2008 GT TDI with 15k on the clock. I told them I wasn't happy with this and they increased the offer to 32k.

Then they went to pay out my finance company and tried to pay them 29k.

Needless to say, I was astounded at that.

The whole time, I never once received a phone call from them. I had to chase them every time to find out what was going on with my car. One of the girls I spoke to on the phone gave me a bit of attitude, mostly the people I spoke to were ok though.

I use YOUI -- they have been the cheapest so far.

I also saved both my parents over $800 switching them from AAMI to YOUI

This is normal, if they can't identify a party at fault to claim the damages from you have to pay the excess. I've had a car hit before and the driver drove at me and took off and I ended up having to pay the excess, sucks but that's life.

To be fair to AAMI there is generally an increase every year on insurance and I doubt that it has anything to do with the accident.

As for the bottle opener that's what dealing with AAMI is like, I've put quite a few claims through them and they quality of work and willingness to fix problems is somewhat lacking. If you don't care about how your car is repaired or that paint doesn't match or panels don't line up than AAMI is good, they have good service with the valet program and free TAXI's and so on.

But if you expect your repair to performed professionally then you're going to be very disappointed and going to make multiple trips and have to fight to get your car repaired properly.

Couldnt be happier to ditch AAMI
You're lucky your experience with them was relatively pain free, I don't care so much about the insurance cost but only that the repair process is pain free and I don't have to stuff around and can choose my repairer. The only thing I'm missing with my insurer is a rental car option.

And how do the features of each policy compare? Saving money is all well and good but if they don't pay out or mess you around it's pointless changing.

If you're buying insurance purely based on price you deserve every problem that comes your way.

Never heard of 'youi' insurance so I had a quick look at their website, they're based in Maroochydore in QLD. The current company has been around for ~12 months and prior to that a year as "outsurance australia". Personally I'd rather put my premiums in a piggy bank then pay it to company that doesn't have an history or information on it's financial backing.

Thanks very much for filling us in - not a great experience at any level. The old story holds - the only way we can gauge insurance is how we are treated when we make a claim. Every insurance company is happy to take our money and are usually polite while they are taking it.

I hope you are enjoying your new ride.

The features? The ONLY thing I care for when I pay for comprehensive is that my car is fully covered for market or agreed value and that the other persons claim is also taken care of.

If you have never heard of YOUI on the Radio or TV then you really must live in a hole, perhaps your trolling habits are keeping you too busy?

YOUI is not underwritten (financed?) by any other insurance company as many other insurance agencies are.

Mmmm maybe I should ditch AAMI. Nothing else is even close on price though, except NRMA. Everyone else is literally twice the price ($1200 plus).

So you don't car about choice of repairer, if new parts or second hand parts are used, if they take six months to pay, if you have to drive to Maroochydore to get your car assessed and so on.

If you have never heard of YOUI on the Radio or TV then you really must live in a hole
I don't watch or listen to the TV or Radio so what this has this to do with anything I don't know. They're a small operation based out of a small town, perhaps you should do your research and not rely on TV or Radio advertising to make your decisions.

Perhaps your trolling habits are keeping you too busy?
I guess you're not smart enough to come back with anything other then some lame attack

                      And this doesn't concern you?

Maverick is right - insurance features vary. Thinking all comprehensive insurance provide the same features is a bit like buying a "Golf" and expecting all to have the same features.

Maybe this will be helpful to get an idea about how one group assess car insurance options? This site comes up with a score based on cost and features for car insurance in each state for various driver categories.

NRMA NSW seems to work out the cheapest for me.
Tried all the supposedly "cheaper" ones too and they are all more exsy than NRMA. Tried youi, aami, budget direct etc.

GT TDI I'm looking at just under $1300
