Try Ballarat... My friend moved from South Melbourne to Ballarat and her insurance premium dropped from $1100 to $640... Postcodes!!

Seems like Shannons is probably the logical choice for me, as all the other smaller insurers in Victoria don't seem to like under 30s with a GTI (or turbo engine for that matter).

What excess are you paying? Unless you're driving the Turbo Jetta, $630 sounds pretty good... especially when you're under 21!

        Insurance companies must hate me

Managed to get a quote online from Shannons, they want $1630

Next to bingle, RACV is still the cheapest option for me

I did a quick alteration of some items with the Shannons quote... If you choose the youngest driver being under 25, Shannons is quite expensive, Between 25-28, its around $200 dollars more than being aged 29...

Excess is now $2050 that I've added my new wheels to the policy, I also opted for a higher excess which results in a lower premium. I think it drops it by about $100 or so. And it's the TDi, not TFSi..

My insurance was just renewed as well. $460 while I was in Townsville, get transferred to Sydney $809

AAMI was cheapest, shannons $890. I'm 40 with TDI comfortline.

Too many variables to really compare or say which is the cheapest company when it comes to insurance.
I used to be indecisive - now I'm just not sure....

my excess is $500 and the policy just under $600 for my tdi golf in auchenflower. must be some serious wheels? hope you don't crash period. but if its in the next 15 years the $100/yr your saving will be paid back pretty quickly

My excess only went up by about $150 when I added the value of the wheels onto the value of the car.. Not too sure if it's worth it but as you said I just have to not crash! Auchenflower.. Our premiums should be very similar as I'm in the suburb next to you . However our age difference may play a big part in the price..

Very wideranging and confusing quotes on all Golfs i was considering even between ins cpys and same models. Also after good service and 20 yrs changed from AAMI- Surprisingly to RACV? $510 inc $50pa windscreen replacement. New 08 gt tdi.Was sorry to leave AAMI but they just weren't competitive anymore- took a change of car to highlight it!

I reckon they started going downhill around 2/3 years ago... before then, they were much cheaper. I noticed my premiums go up every year since then... Normally they go down the longer you're with them...

                            Hey guys,
I just paid AAMI 640ish for full comp on MY09 GT TDI that I'll pick up tomorrow.

I've heard a few bad things though, and they won't let me pick my own repairer. Anyone had any experience with this?

There's a 14 day cooling off period so I can cancel if need be.

NRMA was the next cheapest at about $800ish but after the dramas I've had with them I was pretty reluctant to go back.

Actually multi- thinking more about it i reckon yr right 2-4 yrs ago they started climbing.

Hey Benno, what kind of dramas with NRMA? I have just taken out comprehensive insurance with NRMA (Tiguan 147TSI) and have 14 days left of the cooling off period. Do I need to change my mind?

NRMA took about $40 off when I nominated my wife as 2nd driver rather than if I was the only nominated driver. I was insulted until I thought of the $40 saving.
