Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    1) if i buy a GTI which is out of the original 3yr warranty, i can only buy the extended used car warranty with the $2k cap?

    2) but only if i bought it from a dealer, not private sale?

    3) if i buy new or if i buy a used car within the original warranty, i can still get the extended new car warranty? does it matter if the car was bought from a dealer or private?

Please enlighten me, before i head out and get my golf

    thanks
From what I was told when I bought my car recently all 3 points are correct.

    1) Fine said 2k limit per repair (ie 2k max for dsg, but if you have, say suspension fault also, that is another 2k).
    2) Only from dealer, thats what the dealer said :-P.
    3) I was told that I can purchase the warranty anytime before 100k.

Kind of crap that you can only buy an extended warranty if the used car was from a dealer...(vw or non-vw i presume)

stealerships already hike up the prices of their cars.....

      • I think the reasoning behind it, is that there is some level of trust from dealers that car isn't stuffed at the time of buying the warranty, and the fact that the insurance is marketed by VW ( and underwritten by Allianz) has something to do with it.

        • Its understandable why they would only sell to dealer sold cars. I mean, I can't think of anything secondhand off ebay that I would be able to buy warranty for. The dealer would need to inspect the car for existing faults etc.

Maybe i'm biased cos the dealer really looked after me. :-P.
But agreed, they do hike up the prices.

So please contact Rashid for extended warranties from now on as Jamil is no longer doing them.
This is the sort of thing that gives car salesmen a good name. Thanks to Jamil, who was a prince to deal with and best of luck to Rashid.

That's what I paid - to the cent. (I have a TDI Comfortline, though, not a GT).

My own dealer quoted > $2,500.

I bought my car privately and had no trouble extending the New car warranty through Inchcape ??

                  • Me too. It doesn't have to be purchased used from a dealer. Just needs to be within the original new car warranty if you want to extend the new car warranty.

                    • Dealer extended warranty

This may have already been discussed here, but it is worthy of repeating. When I bought my MKV GTI, the extended warranty that the first owner had purchased was a "dealer" policy. Not knowing all the fine print of this policy, I was happy with the sense of security that I had 3 years after the 2 years that remained on the new car warranty. It was not until i read the policy that I found that the policy was not transferrable. I questioned this with the dealer and they confirmed it, so the insurer had a nice little win here pocketing the premium with no risk attached.

To the credit of the original owner, he didn't use this as a selling point to get me in the door.

                          • My extended warranty should end within the next 6-9 months (I've been doing too many km's) so what options are available in terms of warranty? It will be great if I can extend it again but if not, can I get the VW used car warranty instead? Thanks
