Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yes but you can no longer take the factory warranty extension and have to take the used card warranty extension which has limits on claims and is pretty useless IMO.

Check out the warranty conditions on Volkswagen's website for all the details, you can download both to compare.

But definitely no way you can take out the factory warranty now.

Another thing to bear in mind for the 3 Year Extented Used Car Warranty on offer from VW is that it is not tranferable should you sell the car.

        • You COULD buy a 3 year USED CAR warranty from VW...even if the warranty expired in November...
          Speak to Jaz Hokin...
A new car extended warranty is fully transferable to a new buyer.

I know,I have bought 2 extended warranties recently for my Jetta and partners Golf...

          • I spoke directly with VW insurance (an arm of Allianz) today regarding the the extended warranties and they don't offer the Used car extended warranty - only the new ones. So it has to be another mob that are underwriting the used car one.

There appears to be some confussion within the dealerships as well regarding the 3 year used car warranty, as I was told conflicting stories about the availability between the various dealerships and in the end I was able to purchase one even having previously had the extended new car warranty (And making the dealership awere of that situation)that was about to expire.
Given the track history of alot of these MK5 and my experience,if you can get an extended used car warranty from the dealerships and your planming to keep the car another 3 years then they can be worth is (Even with the policy limitations)

Full Manufacturers Warranty - Additional 36 Months after original 36 months...
Make sure you read the documents etc as there are some KM exclusions (PM me with your email address if you want me to mail you the extra cover PDF)

                2.0 FSI - $1038.45
                2.0 TDI - $1269.24

                ...
These prices do indeed look good. I am waiting for a couple of the dealers mentioned in this thread to call me back.
The price I have been quoted from my local dealer for my 2007 Passat 2.0 TDI DSG wagon is $1,950 and they said that anything lower than that must be for a used vehicle warranty.
Can anyone confirm whether the "2.0 TDI" price quoted above is only for certain models (Golf, Jetta, ...) or whether it should apply to all 2.0 TDI's eg my Passat, for example?
I'm also under a bit of time pressure as my original warranty expires next week!
Appreciate any thoughts (apart from I should have sorted this out earlier!)

                Regards.

The only way you will know for sure is to read the PDS of the financial product being offered.

I've been trying that. Jaz is still on leave. The only other person at that dealership who can help me is not in today and will call me back next week.
The other dealer who can "beat that price by $100" has not returned either of my phone calls.
I'd like to find out if I am chasing an unrealistic price for a Passat TDI DSG wagon (if the prices mentioned in this thread only apply to other models as it seems like most others in this thread have Golfs).
Should I be asking this in the Passat group?

If practical, you can always try visiting a VW dealer near you and bring a printout of this thread that shows the prices then ask if they can match/beat it. Say that you would prefer to deal locally ... it worked for me and my local dealer beat the price that Jaz can offer

I just don't understand why aren't you guys keen on getting the warranty from him?

He had quoted me around $1400 the other week and ended up with $1250
