Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I serviced my car with them 12 months ago (give or take) and the oil filter leaked oil all over the place the next day - had to take it back to have it fixed.

Then had my car serviced by them again a few weeks ago. And the next day my aircon stopped working. Amazing coincidence. Am now waiting for them to replace 4 aircon parts next week (under warranty of course). This of course prompted my sudden desire to extend my warranty for another three years.
Why are you still getting it serviced by them? Take it somewhere else.
They are about the worst VW stealer around, I wouldn't even buy a pen from them (that is if they would even serve me).

    • I still go there because I don't know who else would be better, and I don't want to drive very far from where I live (Cherrybrook).

My dad had a bad experience when he had his Volvo 740GL serviced by Denlo Parramatta - so I don't feel confident taking it there.

I know Central Coast VW have a good reputation, but that would be a 60km one way trip.

I just figure all service departments are as bad as each other, and every service department has good and bad techs working there. Luck of the draw determines who gets to work on your car the day you bring it in.

Yes, they are as bad as each other but if you have had 2 bad experiences from one of them...I'd start thinking of using someone else.

BTW, there are independent garages like European Autotech in Mona Vale and VW Village at Randwick which are really good. They do log book servicing which will not void your warranty.

As for dealer service departments, I've had good experiences with Chatswood classic's service centre so far (not their sales dept tho).

        • I'll give Chatswood CC a try for my next service - thanks for the advice. About time I took my business elsewhere.

          • Hey Guys, fairly new here... I was just reading on a pdf from the VW website, and apparently the extended warranty only covers $2000 for any one mechanical failure? So if there happened to be a DSG failure, or something serious went wrong with the engine/turbo (GTI), the warranty might cover 1/3 (1/4?) of the cost?

            • I don't think you have any thing to worry about. My mate just has his engine replaced in his polo gti under extended warranty... But if he didn't have it it would of cost $12k.... Lucky he got the extended warranty.

Oh okay, yeah everyone seems to get it, I was just worried that if it only covered $2000 a hit, then it wouldn't be worthwhile!

There are 2 different warranties. The used car extended warranty has a cap limit of 2K. The new car extended warranty has no cap limit. I nearly got caught as I just bought a 2006 jetta. My lease company was able to arrange a fully factory extension of new car warranty through swann insurance. Not cheap I think 3 yrs was 2500 but better than having a massive repair bill.

The point is the 2 VW warranties sound the same except for the 2K cap limit. Don't buy the wrong one! If buying a VW out of new car warranty, there are alternatives to make sure you are fully covered.

If you don't mind me asking, what alternatives are better than the used car extended warranty? How much would it cost in comparison?

                    • Just caught this discussion - our Jetta TDI warranty finishes August 2010. Never knew you could extend a warranty (we are the second owners of the vehicle, I assume they would sell us one!?). Don't know much about them - are they worth it & what is covered (eg straight continuation of standard VW new car warranty?) Do you buy it from VW or are you 'tied' to the particular dealer you buy it off (reading above, if from VW why the difference in price)?

                      Any info welcome

                      cheers

                      • Please ignore my above 'rant' - got a little bit trigger happy and fired of the above before reading the forum posts in full. Most of my questions are already answered - great forum!

My question about why a VW Aust extended warranty premium would vary depending on which dealer you bought it off still lingers though...

                        cheers

Some are happy to make a hundred dollars, others want to make $500. Competition I guess. Same reason the price of the cars & trade-ins vary.
