I actually cancelled that warranty within the cooling off period (That was with my dealer that I bought my car with Bryant Byrt capalaba)

I actually got it cheaper at Northstar VW at Kippa Ring

"As long as you have travelled less than 15000kms in your Polo GTi, then I can offer you the Volkswagen Extended Warranty for an additional 2 years for $1407 (or $131.33/month for 12 months).

With regards to the Tyre & Rim Protection, this is $480 for 3 years cover (or $40/month for 12 months) for the standard cover or $570 (or $47.50/month for 12 months) for the premium cover. "

    So i paid them today.

She said if your vehicle is over 15000kms, the cost will be around $400 more.

    her email is :-
    HSutton@nsmg.com.au

Really easy to deal with and very prompt via email.

    • Also thinking of buying a extended warranty. The car is a 09 My10 model GTI DSG with 58000km. That means that it is currently out of manufacturers 3year warranty. I have been offered a extended warranty by dealer. Its a Alphera assured extended warranty insurance. It is underwritten by allianz.
I have been quoted 3y/200000km for $2875. I have yet to fully purchase car.
I have been reading the PDS. There seems to be no max claims (only max value of car), I am worried that they say they will assess components of the car will relevance to km traveled and age of component before paying out.

Has anybody had any experience with these people? Is it worth it. Can it even be done as its outside manufacturer warranty?

Since car is out of warranty can I purchase car then add on extended warranty later on? Dealer said this warranty is only available if i purchase before driving away?

The car is being purchased from Trivett dealership, given that they have done a mechanical insp already should I just save the cash?

      • I got an extra 3 year aftermarket warranty thru my Dealer, Burwin. It has paid for itself. At the time on here no one wanted to know if it wasn't an "Genuine" one. winner.

          • I'm shopping around for VW extended warranty for my Tiguan 103TDI with DSG MY12.

Got couple of quotes in the range of $2350 and $2900 for 2 years. No where close to sub $2000 deals mentioned in this thread.

One dealership offered 1, 2 or 3 years (up to 100,000kms) at a premium of $930, $1465, or $1990, respectively which is backed by Swann insurance and I'm not interested in these.

Appreciate if any forum member cares to share dealer details of good deals recently.

            • Hi,
My manufacturer’s warranty runs out in 2 months so decided to get few quotes. Following is what I have been quoted so far:
              Swann:
              Swann Warranty Assist: (100,000klm limit)
              3 year - Discounted price $1,990

              Swann Warranty Assist: (200,000klm limit)
              3 year - Discounted price $2,330
              4 year - Discounted price $2,980

Swann 5 Star Drivesure: (200,000 klm limit)
              4 year - $2,695

              Allianz:
Allianz New Vehicle Warranty (25,000 extra klms per year)
              3 year - Discounted price $4,040

Assured from Allianz: (200,000 klm limit)
              3 year - $2,795

              VSG from TWG:
36 months Unlimited Extended VSC from TWG for $2175

Does anyone have any experience with Swann extended warranty? Also, what’s the difference between Swanns “Warrantyassist” and “5 Star Drivesure”?
              Thanks in advance.

              • I'm in the process of purchasing a used Scirocco R. Factory Warranty ends in August. Dealer is trying to sell me a dealership 'warranty' they call it "Mechanical Protection Plan'. The car has 10,000kms on it.

                Warranty Details
                - Price $1400 (negotiated down from $1995)
                - Capped claims at $2000 (if more I pay extra)
                - 3 years cover
                - Must service every 6 months with them (289 fixed at 6 month interval + regular service at 12 month intervals for a minimum $440)

Are these sorts of dealer policies worth it? I calculated it will cost me about $3000 more than if I service locally (as per recommended VW servicing intervals) over the 3 years.

I'm pretty sure the 6 Speed DSG has already got an extended warranty...

Read the PDS. The Swann warranty requires you to service at a dealership (read their definition of "authorised service facility" - it includes the word "franchise). The Allianz warranty lets you service it at any licensed mechanic. If you service at your dealer anyway, then go with Swann - just keep in mind that if you break down in the country somewhere and there's no VW dealer around you could potentially void your warranty if you get your car fixed elsewhere.

TWG - google them, grab some popcorn and enjoy the horror stories.

Skimming through the PDS for Swann's DriveSure 5 Star Platinum Extended Warranty policy, it seems that the 5 Star policy is similar in coverage to Allianz's "Assured" policy, which is to say that there are significant exclusions - to the point that not much more than the powertrain is covered.

Of note is the exclusion of "any claim attributable to overheating including (but not limited to) blown head gaskets, cracked or warped cylinder heads".

Given the higher cost of Swann's Warranty Assist product, I'd say it would be more in line with the "Allianz New Vehicle Extended Warranty Insurance" product, which provides coverage that is essentially equivalent to the original manufacturer's warranty, but I can't find a PDS to confirm this.

This seems like quite a low limit - even a moderately significant failure is likely to be testing that limit.

This seems like a money grab to me - not only are you restricted in where you can have your car serviced, it's also demanding services twice as frequently as the manufacturer's recommendation, which is 12mo/15,000km.

For the price quoted, I'd spend a bit more and go for one of the better known policies from Allianz or Swann.

This is the key - before making any decision, get copies of the PDSes from the prospective suppliers for each of your shortlisted policies, and read through them, paying particular attention to servicing requirements, claims limits and coverage exclusions.

                    • I got the Allianz "New Vehicle Extended Warranty" insurance (for about $1500 at the time, 36 months), supposedly bumper to bumper, exactly the same as VW new car warranty. Turned out, it was ! Car is now 6 years old, Allianz extended warranty almost up, pcv valve fails. I figure pcv valve is a consumable so don't bother asking if it's covered. Besides, how much could it be ? My last Ford, it was $25. I get quoted the bill... Insane ! Almost $400 (well, I guess I did buy a VW). I thought what the heck, and give Allianz a call. They could not have been more helpful. Pcv ? Covered, no probs. Cheque arrived in the mail 3 days later. +1 Allianz.

It saved me over $4k when my injectors hit the wall at 100,065 km

                              • Just been talking with a VW dealer this morning. I was quoted $3,000 for our Mk7 golf comfortline for the 2 year Allianz underwritten extended warranty. I was also emailed a copy of the PDS.

I didn't talk to them about how much room to move the price has, but i expect a bit as that's higher than I was expecting.
