  • 225kW from a 1.4L GT TSI

    Hey Guys,

not too sure how accurate my source is and whether it's achievable but (this sounds dodge) a mate of a mate told me that they flashed, changed exhaust and mod'd the fuel injectors to get a claimed 100kW increase out of their GT TSI

now i'm no tech or mech buff so correct me where i'm wrong but modding the injectors, would firstly completely kill economy but more importantly wouldnt you completely destroy the internals after a short period of time??

let me know what you think.

    cheers

Good grief! That's a lot to squeeze out of it.
The biggest increase that I've seen is this one:

...but that's a full 50kW less that the one your mate mentioned.

As far as economy goes, that pretty much goes down the chute as soon as you start messing around anyway. Economy would definitely NOT be their priority!

I think a lot is possible out of the little TSI, it's why I went in with the intention of buying one till I actually drove the TDI and felt the mid range wack.

My only question would be how are the already very high stock exhaust temps after such a power increase???

THAT will kill a turbo quick smart!

            I think that you're right.
But someone on this forum told me: "my car is with me for a good time, not for a long time. You get a general idea what that means.
Lesson from it: always buy a new car other wise you pay for somebody's toying with the car that you buy as a secondhand.

Exhaust temps will be lower if you reduce back pressure by fitting a large bore exhaust. This will increase teh speed at which the gas is able to exit the turbo and therefore reduce the amount of heat transfering inside the turbo. More will be transfered to the dump pipe probably.

When I went from a small turbo running 20psi to a big turbo running 25pis my car ran cooler as the bigger blower did nto heat the air as much to achieve 25psi.

VW Racing extracted 230hp... perhaps they mixed up their units of measurement?

225kw would be worth a few grand on exhaust and flash hahaha.

I think if the turbo was bigger it would definitely be possible, but with our tiny kkk turbo's I doubt we could physically flow enough air for 225kw.

I think 160kw is the absolute limit on stock turbo.

It will be funny though if it is true. I will be doing burnouts in the macca's carpark like wayne's world.

Can you imagine the v8 boys "I have 330kw" "yes but if my 1.4 was the same size as your motor, it would have 996kw".
