    • From what Derek told me, it's located up near the throttle pedal.
As I didn't do the installation personally, I can't confirm it's exact location though.

        Hi,
Can I trouble you to ask what version of VAGCOM software is used. My installer said he cannot write the values using vagcom 805. Do we need to use vagcom 812 beta. I recalled something like that in the french article on the RCD510.

        Thanks in advance, mate ..

        • I'm not certain what version is required.
Derek at European Autotech did the coding.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

          • Hiya,

Do you think if there might be any problems with RCD510 or RNS510 to be installed on GOLF MK 6?

So what you mean is I just need to simply remove the old unit and put RCD510 in, no need any extra work like you have done?

                Cheers

                • I think the RCD510 and RNS510 are both options on the MK6 platform.

If that's correct, in theory you should be able to unscrew the old unit and replace it with the new one.

I have not done this, so can't confirm 100% but it "should" be a plug and play swap.

                  • Thanks man, I did not order this option on my MK6 as they are bloody expensive as an option. However, I will get one of them in the future on ebay or somewhere else by a lot cheaper price.

                    • Hey guys,

I was able to do a VAG COM on my 07 Build - MY08 Golf GTI last night..I obtained the following result for my CAN BUS

                      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 19: CAN Gateway Labels: 1K0-907-530.lbl
                      Part No SW: 1K0 907 530 L HW: 1K0 907 951
                      Component: J533 Gateway H07 0052
                      Revision: H07 01 Serial number: 300507F1000501
                      Coding: ED807F0E1002020003
                      Shop #: WSC 00046 412 00000

                      No fault code found.

                      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Believe this means i have revision "L" and would be able to install a RCD510 with no power drain issues? Can anyone confirm this?

                      Cheers,

                      • from the looks of the scan, you do have version L.

i am led to beleive that Version L or above should be ok.
i had to upgrade mine to install the RCD510 properly.

the gateway i used was version S (only cause that's what he had in stock at the time)

hopefully someone else can confirm that the L version is ok.

                            • @gwills

it will physically install and work fine, even in cars with an incompatible gateway.

what you will find, is that if it's incompatible, you will have a flat battery in a day or two.

did you measure to see if there was any current draw across the battery even with the car locked, and in "sleep" mode ?

there should only be about 0.006 Amps draw.

any more, and you have a problem. (keep in mind it takes a few minutes after locking the car for it to enter "sleep" mode,
and until this happens, you will see currents of up to 4A falling steadily to about 0.006 A.

hope you don't have any probs.

                              • The CAN-bus gateway goes to sleep after 15-20mins. You'll definately see this when testing for current draw.

When I spoke to VW about what fits what, they weren't sure, and had not really looked into it much. Basically, it came down to time and resources, which is fair enough.
