Ha ha Mav!! Tassie feature my b..!!!
The mirror knobs are extremely fragile and I have replaced many for customers. Slamming a door for one meant a $70 switch and cleaning a door trim was another.
Wind buffeting was one thing I have found on my Golf with the rear windows down. Easy fix though, leave them up!!

Yeah I literally "knocked" mine off when drying the door sill on my Mk4.. Replaced the part myself though

My pet gripe is the "Sport" mode of the DSG.
It keeps the engine above 4K rpm even on zero throttle.
Completely useless unless really thrashing it.
I would like a little bit more spirit in "Normal" mode and a lot less in "Sport".
Another gripe is the number of rattles and sqeaks throughout the car and the road noise. My dash sounds like it is going to fall off sometimes and at any speed above 80Kmh I cannot speek normally with my wife.
My tailgate also clunks and rattles like a barn door in a storm.
My local dealer says they do not fix rattles under warranty after 12 months!

Perhaps it varies between models - in S mode, mine changes down when the revs get down to about 2000 or if I accelerate, and up if I stop accelerating and the revs are over 4000 (after about 3 seconds - it must 'sense' I'm not trying to accelerate any more). I wonder if this is one of those things that can be changed by the dealer / VAG com thingee.
I suppose it gives you the choice - select D and use the paddles when you want more performance, or the opposite (select S and use the paddles when you want less performance...)

But don't DSG gearboxes adapt to the way you drive? I.e. If you're aggresive it'll hold the gear for longer whereas if you drive Grandma it'll change at 2000rpm? I've noticed a massive change since when I got my car.

As an experiment, I reset my accelerator (so it would 'forget' whatever it had adapted to) and started driving it with small thottle movements (rarely more than 1-2 cm) and it is very nippy and responsive (especially in S mode, but also in D). When I started driving in D but with more throttle, I found the car was nippy, but only responsive when I used more throttle - almost no response with light throttle. I 'reset' and have driven with light throttle and the responsivness has returned (and the car is as fast as it was when using heavy throttle).
I think the 'adaptive' CPU is trying to slow us all down... perhaps to minimise emissions and fuel consumption (is that how they prove their cars comply with EU standards?). Not usually a conspiracy theorist, but this has been my experience.

Hi Andrew,
Is that the "thump thump" noise like a flat tyre when you have (only) the rear windows down? Did i read elsewhere that is the headlining? Goes immediately when rear windows 4/5ths up?

That happens on every car though... Isn't it because the air doesn't have anywhere to escape from but the point of entry?

That is the noise Stormshark, my Mk4 wasnt anywhere near as bad as the
Mk5. Nearly pops the ear drums and no, I am not sure if its louder because of the roof lining.
