4-way (8-way) adjustable driver's seat in GTI and Leather Option
Let me start by saying a feature for a car that is not yet in production, based on pre-release information is a little premature.
I agree, that you may find that this is a highly important, nay, necessity in your next purchase, but in short would this 8 way adjustment not be available, which other car would you purchase in the same class with this feature?
As for leather, it has gone the way of most cars, and with the savings that they as manufacturers are looking for, the material has changed. Sadly this is of the times for a car in this category also.
Finally, you saying that people being hyperbolic and rude - well to be honest, your insertion in 2 threads on this topic actually could be considered spamming. Your approach is a little less than conversational - and as such I doubt that the VWW mouthpiece will be the platform for addition of features to the GTI at model launch. I suggest writing to Jutta and asking if there is something that can be sorted out.
Like Andrew, I am not going to close your thread yet - but to all posters, please keep some perspective.
Driving position is amongst the most important aspects of any car, let alone a GTI, and a tilt function allows the seat to be set up optimally for all drivers.
The car has a drivers seat that is comfortable and supportive ... the 6 way seat works just fine.
I find it extraordinary that some posters to this thread believe that if a seat is comfortable for them, then it should be good enough for every other driver too, ergo tilt adjustment is not called for. It's a patronising: "You only think you need tilt adjustment, but I know better." They've probably never owned a car with a tilting driver's seat.
Others characterise tilt as a "luxury" whereas it is simply a low-cost necessity in any well-engineered motor vehicle of the GTI's value.
In my opinion there will be too much technology, and a higher chance of more things going wrong...
It's a tilt function, Alfy; you pull a lever and move the seat up or down. While a number of members have commented sagely on the added complexity of motorised seats and the desirability of manual adjustments, automation is not the main issue; it's tilt adjustment and the GTI does not, but should, IMHO, have it. If the Australian GTI does gain an 8-way seat it will more likely, and perhaps lamentably, be motorised (according to my source) but I don't imagine there'll be any memory function.
I think having 8 way adjustment is a bit of a gimmick unless 2 or more people drive the car alot
Tilt is no greater a necessity when there is more than one driver. The need arises whenever there is just one driver who needs additional under-thigh support. You (GTI32) and Maverick could share a GTI without tilt whereas I would want tilt in mine. Nothing like choice. A seat with tilt meets every drivers' needs - even those who claim not to need it.
What is really useful when you have more than one driver is power seats with 2+ memory settings and coded remotes (that allow the seats to be adjusted as you approach the car). That, my friends, is Nirvana. But relax, Mave, I'm not suggesting VAG specify that here . . . not yet anyway.
I will however acknowledge the benefit of tilt adjustment as I had it on my SS. It is very handy to put some support under your thighs on long trips...
Given your comment above that 8-way is a gimmick, perhaps you do not appreciate that 8-way = 6-way + tilt. 8-way does not necessarily mean motorised. You've not been drinking with Maverick, I trust.
I'm still waiting to hear what is so wrong with leatherette on the doors and the back of the seats etc.
Despite what Mave implied, I said nothing about the vinyl on the back of seats (which get scuffed and kicked by children and don't touch your skin). As for the armrest, the saving in leather by finishing it in vinyl (or "leatherette" as Mave calls it) is about the area of a single headrest. For such a small amount of additional leather, wouldn't it be nice to have natural leather under your arm instead of sweaty vinyl? Why be such a stooge for VAG's stinginess, Mave? Live it up a little!
I think Metrolex makes some valid points. For example, the GTI seats fit me like a glove - I wouldn't change a thing, even with additional adjustment. However, they don't suit my wife to the same degree, so additional adjustment such as tilt would be of benefit to her.
Oh, and for what it's worth, the OP isn't the only person who finds Maverick's attitude unecessarliy abrassive and unhelpful. It doesn't take much effort to be courteous.
VW would not use vinyl if it did not cost less. You can't really beat leather for durability, smell and touch.
If the interior does not include leather where you'd reasonably expect it, VW should be upfront about this in their literature (but there's no mention of it in the brochure I read before ordering leather for my GTI).
What should piss you off more is that leather is a ZERO dollar factory feature in the UK and most of europe.
Leather is a 1675 pound option on the GT/GTI in the UK.
Germany is a different story but they have a different pricing model and have about 20 different stereo/nav options, around 20 colours (most costing close to 2000 euros) and so on.
I'm jealous you have the time/bother to take the arguement to the next level.
ps: my GTI seat is very comfortable but definately lacks adjustment. Just lifting it up and down is not really enough IMHO. I would like the front of the seat (near your knees) to tilt down a bit. I feel it would suit my backside/lower back angle much better.

Too true.
Even my old N14 SSS Pulsar had a front & rear tilt (independent) adjustment back in 1991!
And lumbar adjustment. Not motorised, but I didn't care. If only they'd put the accelerator pedal in a more comfortable position...

...brings a tear to my eye Mine was one of the 1st Aussie made SSS's (!). Couldn't kill the damn thing - had a stellar engine, and handled pretty well stock standard. I still have pleasant memories of out-lapping a 325is all day at Malalla one day - not by much, mind you - but it really made its obnoxious owner spit blood
Actually only sold it last month - it'd been used as a family hack for quite a while - still no rattles or squeaks and still never used a drop of oil! (Heavy sigh!). Sorry for the thread jack, chaps
And all this quoting and carrying on by Metrolex and a Maverick which is like watching a pub argument will stop now. I can see this being closed today.
C,mon fellas, if you need to argue, please do it on one of the argumentive forums.
If the seats are the main worry in your life, you need to check out different brands maybe???
