Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Thanks Barney, they look perfect but bloody expensive, especially when I need 2 pairs. The holes are in the black centre section which is hi gloss non-metallic finish. I'll get some from Repco or similar and try painting them gloss (before fitting ) and see how they look. If they're no good I'll get the real deal.
I'll actually be at VW tomorrow getting the DSG checked out.... again so will see if they have something to sell also.
I removed the number plate frame last weekend and it looks heaps better, the holes are hard to see and nobody would notice, just me knowing that they're there is enough.

    Cheers,

    Paul

Thank goodness for non-metallic colours, eh? (for bumpers anyway)
Look forward to seeing how it looks, Paul.

I think it looks better without the frame mainly because of my small plate.

Now I just have to find a way to get rid of the chrome "smile". I was thinking removing the trim and spraying or painting it in a gloss black?
        gday maca
        the results look amazing mate
I haven't done it yet but I have taken off the grille pieces myself on my jetta as I plan to spray mine gloss black as well. its not hard and a good panelshop should do the trick without it costing too much

I plan to spray my chrome one in black. I visited a panelshop and they said they could sand it down, fill the bumper holes and spray it any colour I want, (top and the bottom "smile) for $150

Just to clarify..you bought the black GT front to replace your chrome?

Wow that sound prety good to get all that done, the centre grill is from a GT sport and it comes primered (I think that's how you spell it). Although in saying that, it's only the chrome part that gets painted. The grill slats are lie a satin black and they don't get touched.

I can give you the exact part number when I get ahold of the invoice.

Sorry to be a pain/annoyance... but why on earth would you want to change the look of the Jetta?

I may cause some disturbance/offence but first of all, good job with replacing and installing the new grill.. but why? It just seems you wiped off value of the car by changing the grill and making it look like a cheaper model all in the name to be 'unique'.... sorry just putting in my 2 cents - love it or hate it..

Firstly, you haven't caused any offence to me I appreciate your opinion and after all, it is a forum!

Fair enough, I really don't like messing with cars all that much, and while I did like the chrome.. I preferred to colour match the grill because it has more of a "younger" appeal to it and I felt the chrome gave it a more "mature" look. Haha I can imagine I'm getting some death stares right now but meh

Stephen, I'll pm you when I get home. Atm I'm typing from my iPod and I'm having serious issues with it.
