When you remove the grille, it's attached to the piece of the bumper that has your number plate mounted to it. The grille snaps out (it's clipped in) and thereby letting you alter either part - Grille: chrome, black, GTI &c. Centre Bumper: body colour, chrome, matt/gloss black, satin aluminium &c.

Here's a guy removing his GTI bumper - it may explain things a bit better. BTW it's a US car (bumper has side markers), not that it matters to your question.

Slightly off topic, but the 'GT Sport' badge in the grill: is it just 'spring loaded' at the back and easy to remove without breaking (for that "mysterious"' Q-ship look at the front...)?

Sorry yeah, I guess I should've been clearer, I want to change the entire centre bumper area. From the grill to the lower grill area. Look at the attached picture if you don't understand what I mean... I just think it would look much better in the glossy black of the GT instead of the chrome..

        Does that change anything?

No, not at all - there are 4 main parts there: grille, centre bumper (clipped into the grille), lower grille and lower grille trim (the thin 'U' shaped chrome strip around the bottom & sides).

If you want the GT look, you'll need to replace those 4 parts.
Or yes, you could paint them, but it will never look the same.
The centre VW badge will be the same, so you can re-use it.
I'm not sure what colour the GT bumper part comes in - they are gloss black on the GT Sport (like the GTIs), but the original GTs were painted body colour.

PS If you want to sell the Jetta centre bumper and lower trim, I may be interested - I have an experiment I want to try

You wouldn't be trying the "brushed" chrome look as shown I think at golfmkV?

Yes it is. There are 2 'hooks' that only locate the badge in the correct position, and one 'spring loaded' doo-dad that actually stops the badge from falling out.
You only need one finger in there to push the clip sideways and the badge will come out.

In the photo below, the 2 locater clips are seen at either end of the badge (the wedge shaped doo-dads). The springy clip is seen in the centre of the pic at the lower back of the badge.

I'm told the GT Sport badge is identical. Stick your finger in the grille below the badge and see whether you can feel the springy clip. You'll need to push the hook-shaped part to the left to detatch it from the grille. Good luck

Ok well once I get my Krudd money i'll have to go to VW and actually see what parts are specified in the "GT Grill" that I would be getting for $410..

And i'll be letting you know whether i'm going to sell the grill or not..

Spot on. Thanks, mate. Easily removed and replaced.

Sorta - but not the 'brushed' look - I don't like that too much.
More the 'satin' look as per the R cars.
Dunno how to do it yet.
And $1000 + shipping for the real one is a bit steep...

Could be a DIY in there somewhere too!
