Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

    Thats the point, I can't justify spending $1800 on a tune for a car thats just 2 and from uni and which I will trade in as soon as I have finished.

    The KW suspension is different because I can swap it back out and sell it and get money back which will make it a very worthwhile upgrade for handling pleasure.

    Same with the AVC9000, I will get a higher price for the car than the $900 it cost me as I can sell the car as having full satnav head unit etc.

      Well couldn't you sell the car with the retune having more power under that logic as well? Albeit costs a bit more than the AVC, but the AVC would be lucky to add a few hundered as it's an after market head unit (whereas you'd get about half the money back or more for the RNS510).

      All those other mods and time you've spent could have paid for the retune and a car with the retune would still be faster without butchering the car..

        I think your wrong about the head unit. The AVC9000 will fool almost everyone that it is a genuine VW head unit. So if factory is a $2.5-3k option then you will certainly add more value to the car than $900 with the AVC9000.

        It is a genuine head unit for a VW. It just isn't a genuine head unit by VW. It is all in how you phrase it.

        Secondly, I have yet to see any times for an APR tuned car. I doubt its faster than my car with the low $$ weight reduction and traction mods I have done. My car has pulled a 6.89 to 100 and APR only claims 7.2.
        Of course, my mods + APR would be faster again!

          How did you get the 6.89 figure?

          I have the APR Tune and got a 7.2 but I believe it was using a different program to get the above figure, so you really can't compare apples with oranges.

          My figure 7.2 had a few things:
          - The fuel tank was 100% full (filled it 1 hour earlier)
          - The launch was good but could of been better
          - There were 2 people in the car.
          - Stock suspension

          The only way to really compare figures is to go to the drags and compete one on one. Otherwise it's a bit the same like Dyno machines ones calibrated one way and another, another way.

          fortunately APR are not the only ones who now offer a tune for the 1.4. Revo have one now as well and are a bit cheaper then the APR one with similar power and torque gains.

            Yeah depends who's buying it and if they know anything about VW's.

              If you had 2 people in the car thats very impressive time then and would indicate that the APR torque claims are correct! Which I hope they are as I do want to get tuned, just too poor atm.
