I think you can unlock the hatch by unlocking the passenger doors, but to only unlock the hatch you need to press the centre button on the key (it unlocks the hatch but does not open it - you still must push the VW badge).

If you unlock only the hatch, it will lock again when you close it (or if you change your mind and don't open it).

I can't recall, where you have the 'two stage' passenger door unlocking (once for the driver's door, twice for all doors), whether the hatch would unlock with the driver's door or only with all doors (logically, it would not unlock with the driver's door only). Also, not sure whether the hatch will lock automatically if you turn off the automatic door locks (above 15 km/h).

    Choices, choices...

All variable settings which can be found in your full sized MFD if you have it.

Or if you have my car the remote control just doesnt seem to work sometimes.

You can program all those unlocking etc features if you have the high MFD display in the convienence functions. Otherwise, make friends with someone with a Vag Com cable nearby, and program it to suit.

Auto opening boot is clever, but I have to wonder is it possible to accidently trigger it while driving along?? What about popping it accidently in a low roofed carpark

I know Maverick has it on his blog.

It will require the use of VAGCOM and a spring or two.
          Here it is http://www.my-gti.com/180/volkswagen...-hatch-opening

Pretty straight forward install, once you find the right springs it's straight forward.

The only way to pop the boot is via the remote, this won't work once the key is in the ignition.

Normal operation is unchanged, if you press the button to unlock the passenger doors and the hatch all you need to do is to press the hatch logo to open.

All you need to do is be aware in low height areas but the hatch doesn't open up that far and I've never been in an area yet where I had to hold it down.

Be handy if you could raise the hatch while driving and have a plastic gatling gun pop up for those pesky tailgaters...

and in case you're wondering, it won't pop up by itself either, unless you mod it.

I use the remote single press driver door unlock only and double press all doors unlocking feature all the time and can confirm it does unlock the hatch as well. I do however occasionally have problems with the double press all doors unlocking feature, sometimes it just won't work. Any one else seen this issue?

Yeah i've found that also, I just think you have to time it right.. Like leave a .5sec gap between the press instead of doing both immediately.

Hmm. My issue is that the remote just doesn't work sometimes!!!

But I am not a stranger to this. usually just have to wait a second or two and try again

Might be time for a new battery in your remote ?

I've just realised we can do auto-closing (and opening) too for all windows by using the key instead of the remote keyfob..twist and hold...
