Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Maybe so, but how many times do you drive in 100-110 zones for 5hrs (or more) straight without a break ?
(this trip i stopped at Hexham, then drove straight through to Brisbane in one hit.)
i do Sydney to Brisbane a few times a year, (and Sydney to Nowra every few weeks) and it's bloody annoying when it does not engage properly.

if i only ever drove round town, i wouldn't care so much.....

@pinzvidz Good info. i to was tapping the brake pedal to cancel.

I've found that very little people ever have the CC in the "off" position. It's not a major task to flick it to the "on" position when needed but by keeping it on all you need to do it press a little button

You'll also find that some Audi's always have the CC running, all you need to do is press the "set" button for it to engage..

ill be replacing the switch this weekend.
      total cost a whopping $22.80.

i figured out what was going on when the cruise would not engage, and i toggled the brake pedal a little, then the cruise would engage.

so ill replace the switch, and that should fix my issue.
ill report my results once it's done.

At least it wasn't anything too major, you make it up to Brisbane ok?

Is using your brake pedal to cancel it out a bad thing? I barely ever use the "cancel" function on the stalk and never switch it of.. Never did in my Mk4 either, and that had the little CC light on the dash that was always on..

yep, im here in Hemmant. made it here no problems.
989 km, on one tank (10 km to empty at my destination)

as for using the brake pedal as a canceler, can't see a problem.
just didn't know there was a cancel function on the stalk.i will probably continue to use the brake pedal myself.

if the switch solves my problem, i will be one happy camper.
heaps cheaper than a stalk replacement.

(OT) i am going to do my best to get to the cruise this weekend too

I've also heard of people disassembling the on/coast/off switch in the CC stalk and cleaning up the contacts as a cheaper alternative to replacing the whole stalk (when their car is out of warranty). Seems to work for most that have tried it.

Nah, not really. It's the old skool way, I suppose. I remember many years ago my mum's VH Commodore had cruise - it was basically one button. Press it to set, touch the brake pedal to cancel. No on or off, no + or -, no resume.

It's more of a convenience to have the cancel button on the MKV, if anything. I'm still kicking myself, btw.

Yes, I know. I was only joking.

I used CC on a 3.5 hour drive on the Hume the other day. I've never had CC in a car before. It has its merits. However, while convenient, I can also see it being a bit of a danger, as I felt it could reduce your situational awareness a bit. In anything but light freeway traffic, I wouldn't use it.

Driving for 5 hours is reckless and irresponsible according to the government.

                FYI.

                lol

Not if you take a 10 minute break every 2 hours
