Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Never had a problem, I leave mine switched on at all times and engage it as necessary.

The cruise control switch is known to give problems. I had mine replaced under warrantee. I leave mine switched off most of the time these days and only turn it on when I am driving longer distances

I didn't know that, sounds like time for a trip to the dealer then !!

I was driving down to Jervis Bay, and everytime i wanted to switch it on, it wouldnt. The switch would be on but no cruise control symbol. At every light id be restarting the car and trying it, and it still didnt work. Though when i stopped by somewhere and turned the car off for say 5-10min, i'd try turn it back on and it'd work.... is it me, or is it the CC?

Sounds like an issue for the dealer.

You should look at buying the extended warranty........

or 3 months after it runs out your aircon could "self-destruct" itself......

There has been a known problem with the CC stalk, symptoms are intermittent failure to engage, and also dropping out when engaged.

You might want to get them to check for any codes relating to a faulty brake light, as sometimes it can cause problems for the CC (and lots of other symptoms too).

If you have a TDI engine I'd get the turbo checked out too.

If you have a 2.0 TFSI engine get the cam follower for the high pressure fuel pump checked for wear.

bummer, it seems i've picked up the same problem...

have a 05 mk5 Golf GTI and now have the CC issues :-/ and worse still it's run out of warranty as well :'(

has anyone taken this issue to the dealership? was it a major fix or a minor problem?

                        thanks!

i have the same prob from the sound of it.. mine is booked in to the dealer in the next week or so as i need my elec windows fixed also.
my cc will sometimes not turn on at all... have to stop the car and restart then it works. its an intermittent thing so will pressure them to change the switch.
my elec windows i noticed the rear passenger side will not operate on auto. i have to hold the switch (drivers control) the whole time to get the window to operate. I think it is to do with the main lockout on the drivers door coz this doesnt seem to work now either. can still operate the rear windows with the switch on.

I just called the dealership in my local area and have booked it in for a look this Friday morning...

I've read several articles about the actual stalk problem and it's a simple replacement (maybe faulty switch i guess), so fingers crossed it's only a minor issue...
